Description: Sahna runs into Master Eilomar.
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 9, day 8 of Turn 7
Sahna sped around the corner, knowing she was going to be late back to class and
not wanting to miss a moment of it on this foolish -
"Urgh!"
She literally bounced off something she hadn't expected to run into and
staggered back a few steps, arms windmilling, before her backside landed on the
polished floor with a thump.
"Oof," Eilomar grunted. The fat master harper had too much mass to be even
staggered by a teenager girl but he still felt the impact. Nobody liked being
hit anyways.
"Ooops. Sorry Master Eilomar," Sahna said, scrambling to her feet and looking
worriedly at the very round harper. "I didn't see you." She resisted the
temptation to rub her backside which was aching unpleasantly. She was going to
have bruises, for sure.
"Of course you didn't apprentice, you were running around like headless wherry.
Hasn't anybody taught you how rude and dangerous it is to run in corridors?
Especially in busy Hall like Harper Hall," Eilomar scolded angrily and rubbed
his belly.
"Yes sir," Sahna said, obligingly hanging her head in the hope a show of
penitence would go in her favour. "I was trying to be on time for class."
"Leave earlier, and don't leave it to the last minute. No running in hallways!"
Eilomar continued his reprimands, shaking a finger at her.
Sahna nodded. "Very sorry. I could have hurt somebody," she offered, sure that
the man was bound to bring that up as well. Sometimes things made her remember
the Hall being at Dolphin Cove Weyr with particular fondness and this was one of
those moments. There had been a lot of 'outside' at Dolphin Cove where the new
Hall at Emerald Falls just seemed to be endless corridors all of which had to be
negotiated at a walk.
"You're right about that, apprentice...what is your name?" Eilomar said and asked.
It was always a bad sign when they wanted your name. "Sahna, sir."
"Sahna. You need to learn to act with proper dignity for a harper," Eilomar
continued his lecture.
"Oh! But I'm a printer," she said, delighted to think that he might not bother
trying to improve her behaviour when she wasn't even one of his own.
"Well, that explains it. You bunch have no idea how to act properly. All you do
is fiddle around with your machines," Eilomar sounded testy and depreciatory. He
generally didn't like printers.
"We don't!" Sahna said, shocked. "We do some lovely hand-crafting with letter
presses and hand binding. Beautiful work, as well as the bulk printing we do for
works of entertainment and education." The words were an echo of what her
superiors in the craft were often telling her but she didn't think she needed to
tell the master harper who she was quoting.
"And cheeky too," Eilomar grunted. "Of you go now, girl, you're keeping me from
important business," he made dismissive gesture with his hand.
Sahna couldn't have been more surprised if the large master harper had suddenly
sprouted wings like a dragon. No punishment? No report to the senior printer?
But then, he did have her name so he could report her at any time and there was
no real obligation on him to tell her he was going to do that. But still -
"Thanks you, Master Eilomar. Very sorry." And she walked briskly off down the
corridor. She was going to be later than ever but if she was very, very lucky
that would be _all_.
"I better not catch you running around corridors ever again," Eilomar warned her
after her and continued his way.
