Description: Panitath is curious about the technicians
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 14 of Turn 7

The generator was put together - including the new gear that Kumore
had provided - and the blades neatly stacked next to the machine. The
thing was heavy and Ricker didn't want to move it until he had to, so
it was still in its sheltered spot near the Lower Caverns. The next
step was building a sturdy frame for it.
Ricker stood with his hands on his hips, surveying the beach from his
chosen spot for the future windmill. It was the top of a low hillock
near the entrance to the Technician's quarters, bare of greenery and
without a path. The best part was that there was a clear line of sight
from the top of the hill to the sea, and after careful study involving
a red windsock on a large pole, Ricker had determined that the
prevailing wind came inland, and was steady without being too strong.
And then it would be laying the cable, and after that was done he
could finally get rid of those blasted, useless glows...
}:Someone is building on my beach:{
Cyradis smirked at the tone of her lifemate. Everything in and around
the Weyr 'belonged' to her and she didn't hesitate in making that
clear to anyone. **Yes,** she shot back **The crafters are improving
the Weyr. But we can go take a closer look if you want.**
}:I come:{
Cyradis walked out into the bowl and climbed aboard with a little bit
of effort. It was amazing how out of shape she'd become during her
time resting before Kendran's birth. She'd been moving around and
even exercising since but it was clear to her that she'd need more
'time in the saddle' as it were.
The big gold lifted out of the Weyr glittering in the sunlight and
Cyradis' hair streamed out behind her as they first circled the bowl.
Panitath knew how much she'd missed flying and gave her an unbidden
tour before turning back to the beach.
"Hello!" she called as they landed near the structure.
"Lady Goldrider, Panitath." Ricker swept off his hat and bowed low. It
paid to know who your Weyrleaders were, even if you rarely saw them.
That was Solis' job. Never the less, he'd spent several evenings
studying a pack of dragonpoker cards until he'd memorized their faces.
"Welcome."
Panitath trotted forward closer to the structure before pausing to
allow her rider to dismount.
Cyradis walked up to take her own closer look. "Good morning
Journeyman," she said reading his knots. "What have we here?"
Ricker looked up at the pole behind him. "A wind sock, to test
wind speed and regularity. I'm going to build a windmill here. I'm sure
that Master Solis told you...?"
Panitath sniffed the wind sock and walked around the small mound
curiously inspecting the equipment and materials stacked nearby.
"She'll be bored shortly and leave you alone," Cyradis smiled as she
watched Panitath circle. "Yes," she said "but he neglected to tell
Panitath that someone would be building on _her_ beach."
Ricker blinked. "Ah-- well. I see. I will have to remind Master Solis
to do so in the future." Ricker offered Cyradis a small smile and a
half-shrug before turning to bow to the queen dragon. The action was
expected by the riders, but bowing to dragons made him feel silly and
self-conscious. "If it pleases you, Panitath, I hope that you'll
consent to letting me build."
Cyradis smiled. **See? They are polite if you are nice about it.**
}:Well since he asks so nicely,:{ she nodded her own head to the man.
"She agrees," the Weyrwoman said. "And she thinks you have very nice manners."
"I'm flattered." Having a dragon think you had nice manners was
meaningless, but at least it got him into the Weyrwoman's good books.
"I'll also be running cable across the beach to there," he said,
pointing at the Lower Caverns entrance that led to the Technicians'
temporary quarters. "It'll go above-ground first, but if everything
works and the windmill becomes a permanent structure, I'll have it
trenched and buried."
"Good," she nodded. "Bury it deep. If you need dragon power to move
some boulders over it I'll organize a party for you. Sometimes the
hurricanes make a mess of any coastal structures. Though this spot is
fairly well protected."
"A few strong backs wouldn't go amiss either. If you have them to
spare." Trenching was hard labour, and if he could delegate to Lower
Caverns drudges, then he would.
"I'm sure that can be arranged as well," She nodded. "Weyrlings like
to dig." She held up a hand, "I don't mean the riders. The dragons."
"I'll take what I can get, and I'll let you know if-- and when-- I'll
be ready for them. I still need to put together the windmill and run
some wires. See how successful it is."
"Of course," she smiled. Panitath had satisfied her curiosity and her
attention had begun to wander. "Well then, I believe we've satisfied
Panitath so I'll just leave you to it then. Let me know when you need
help." She moved back over and scrambled up the side of her dragon.
The short flight had been refreshing and she wanted to take a little
ride and maybe a turn about the surrounding countryside before anyone
told her 'no.' She smiled and lifted an arm in farewell then the gold
jumped into the air and sailed away in a long arc over the water.
