Z'ku lay on the floor tickling Kazom. "So how long do we have left? A sevenday?"
"More or less," she smiled.
Kazom was beaming up at Z'ku with that baby toothless grin and
pumping his arms and legs in excitement. Suddenly he gave out and
involuntary sound and startled himself.
Pierka chuckled. "He's done that a couple of times now and it's always
a surprise."
"Everything is new." He smiled at the boy. "I wonder what the world is
like to him."
"They told me its just a big blur but he's learning fast. He
recognizes both of us now and smiles when he sees us." She grinned and
got down on the floor with the two of them. "But I'm still mostly 'the
food.'"
"Does that make me the entertainment?" Z'ku leaned over to kiss her
cheek. Being with her -- with both of them -- made him feel warm
inside. He wouldn't give up Xemroth for the world, but he did wish he
could settle down and have a normal family life.
"Hopefully," she grinned and squeezed his arm. "You look like you're
doing a good job," she added when Kazom grinned even wider then his
grin turned into a yawn.
"I'm going to choose to take that as a compliment." His mouth turned
up as he looked at her. "That I'm so entertaining that I'm wearing him
out."
"It would be nice if he slept through the night," she waggled her
eyebrows at him suggestively.
He leaned over to kiss her. "How did I get so lucky?"
"Not luck," she grinned. "Pure skill. I like having you around." It
was more than that really. For the first time she had a family like
the ones she'd always envied. But it was also different because of the
ways of the Weyr. Z'ku had been wonderful to her and taught her things
she'd never even imagined.
"I'm glad I'm not a burden, my lady." He flashed her a playful smile
and rubbed Kazom's belly.
The little guy was finally getting tired and his eyelids began to droop.
Her voice dropped to a whisper. "When he's down, I'll show you my
gratitude." She found that she cared deeply for Z'ku and it seemed to
grow each day. She didn't expect him to stay with her nor had she
asked him for any kind of commitment.
His body heated and he slid a hand along her arm. "And I'll show you
mine." Wanting someone that wanted you back was an amazing feeling.
She smiled back and nodded. She lifted a hand to his face and smoothed
a stray lock on his forehead. She was already feeling the warm flush
to her skin and the subtle changes in her body at his touch. "I know
I'll like it," she said just before she leaned in for another kiss.
He deepened the kiss, leaning closer. After a moment he pulled away.
"We should get him to bed." So he could focus on Pierka... hopefully
without distraction.
She was lost in the kiss for a moment before her eyes refocused and
she smiled. "Yes," she grinned and hopped to her feet. Bending down
she expertly scooped Kazom off the blanket without waking him and
carried him to his cradle. At the rate he was growing, it wouldn't
long before he got too big for it but that would be after he began his
life with his foster mother. She bent to kiss him and whisper
endearments.
Z'ku joined her, an arm going around her waist as he looked down at
the baby. "Sleep well." It was going to break his heart a little to
give Kazom to the foster mother.
She turned in his arms and put her hands on his chest. "You are one of
the best things that has ever happened to me," she said softly and
rose up on tiptoe to kiss him. "Now take me to bed."
Grinning, he bent and scooped her into his arms. "As my lady commands."
