After days of biting off poor J'darin's head whenever he spoke to her,
Devyn was relieved when Ellyth finally shot from her weyrledge with a
fury and tore into the hide of a small herdbeast. Devyn knew it was
mostly Ellyth's flight emotions that caused her to go for the animal
as she had just fed the day before. The bloood from the herdbeast gave
the green just enough adrenaline to toss the carcass aside, scream
defiantly toward the sky, and then rocket upwards.

Devyn felt dazed as she made her way toward the flight weyr. Ellyth
usually gave her enough warning so that she was already in there
before the green took off into the skies. The greenrider was aware
that a few men followed her into the room, although two of them stood
out. R'axe she knew because they were in the same Wing, and W'ser she
knew because he was the Weyr's dragonhealer. The other male faces were
all a blur to her, some she faintly recognized as faces she had seen
before but couldn't place a name.

There was one face in particular, however, that was missing- her
weyrmate's. J'darin's absence, again, was like a dagger ripping
through her. How could he participate in other flights but not his own
weyrmate's? Grinding her teeth together, Deyvn turned and closed her
eyes, telling herself that it didn't matter. She was determined to
enjoy this.

K'yne studied the woman as she turned her back on the men in the room.
He found her behavior odd, but then, maybe she was one of those
holdbred women that hated flights, or maybe she was "exclusive" with
someone and didn't want to sleep with other people. Whatever the case,
K'yne couldn't say that he would mind if Arinoth caught her green. She
was easy on the eyes and her toned body was packed with curves in all
the right places.

The brownrider rolled his shoulders and relaxed his stance, allowing
himself to fully join with Arinoth as the brown winged his way through
the pack of males in the air. Arinoth snarled as he jostled wings
with another brown, a male that was older than him.

Branth bared his teeth at the younger dragon, causing W'ser to stiffen
instinctively, even though he was far below, safe in the flight weyr.
The Weyrdragonhealer had been relieved when he saw that the green
rising belonged to Devyn. She was a woman that was easy to get along
with, and more importantly, she was a _she_. W'ser could just never
fully get into a mating flight when the rider of the dragon was a man.
But Devyn, oh yes, he would urge Branth to win this flight!

**Easy does it, Jayth. Don't crowd the lady, she seems agitated.**
R'axe spoke to his dragon, even though they were joined completely,
their eyes whirling as they watched the glowing green dip in and out
of the grey clouds that hovered above the Weyr. The blue was quite
adept at winning green flights, and even though R'axe would have been
more excited had the rider been a male, he did have a special soft
spot for Devyn after the night they'd had drinking out on the beach.

A young blue dragon made a swooping advance on Ellyth and she shrieked
in outrage, barrel-rolling out of the way, and hissing with outrage.
}:Get away from me!:{ She did not want these males! She wanted to fly!

}:A wily green. Just the way I like them.:{ Arinoth told K'yne, his
voice filled with confidence as he patiently waited for the right
moment to snag Ellyth. He could tell that this was not one of those
greens that was to be won over with sweet words. Ellyth would have to
be caught, he would have to prove his dominance to her by capturing
her, and making her his own.

Ellyth snarled at the pack of males behind her as she winged her way
higher, breaking fully above the cloud coverage now and into the
crystal clear sky on the other side. This was more like it! The green
darted here and there, crowing her superiority as she tucked her wings
and dove toward the ground at breakneck speed.

Jayth followed close, nearly matching the green for agility as he
tucked his wings and followed her into the steep and rapid descent.
She was wild and carefree and Jayth wanted her now more than ever.

Branth had hung back while the green ascended above the clouds, and
his patience and strategy paid off as the green plummeted straight
down to where he was. With keen eyes the brown raced to intersect with
the green's flight path so that he could snatch Ellyth up. Just as he
was about to collide with the green a brown hide darted in front of
him. Branth had to sharply veer and backwing in order to keep from
colliding with the other male.

Arinoth crowed arrogantly as he caught Ellyth, locking his talons with
hers as he twined their necks and wrapped his tail around the
female's. He'd had a similar plan as Branth, only Arinoth had decided
to put it into action just a fraction before the older brown.

Ellyth bugled in surprise, and despite how she tried to free herself,
Arinoth's strong hold could not be broken.

}:You will not be sorry that I caught you.:{ Arinoth promised as he
carried Ellyth away from the Weyr.

On the ground below, W'ser shook his head and stepped from the flight
weyr, disappointed that Branth had lost once again. He couldn't even
remember the last time the brown had won a flight. Oh well, he tried
not to hold it against his lifemate.

R'axe, on the otherhand, didn't seem put out in the slightest as he
grabbed up the young bluerider that had been standing nearby and
quickly pulled him away from the crowd. He could always make the best
out of a mating flight, whether he won or not.

K'yne stepped through the bustle of people, for now flight moths had
shown up to take away the losers, and put his hands on Devyn's
shoulders. Turning the woman to face him he silently thanked Arinoth
for his good taste. The uncertainty that he had expected to be in the
woman's eyes was not there, nor was there loathing. There was nothing
in the greenrider's eyes but a thirst, and K'yne was ready to slake
that thirst.

Devyn didn't recognize the handsome face of the man that stood before
her, but all thoughts of J'darin and his absence were gone as she
pressed herself against the winner of the flight, and succumbed to his
fiery kisses.
