A Parent Panic

Writers: Chelle, Paula
Date Posted: 26th December 2014

Characters: Relik, Uegot, Nerue
Description: Uegot loses one of his kids.
Location: Seacraft Hall
Date: month 10, day 9 of Turn 7

"Excuse me, hallmaster, have you seen a wee girl around here? A five turns
old, blond, blue eyes and very cute. I've seemed to misplaced one," Uegot
asked. That was probably more words in one go than most people ever heard
from him. But he was worried. Nerue had run off after fight with her brother
and the hall was full of places where little girls could get hurt.

Relik had children himself though he didn't have much part in the raising of
them. That was more his wife's area. Of course he took claim for every
success they had, regardless. The hallmaster stopped and turned around,
thinking. "I might have heard little feet that way but I was reading so I
didn't look up." A loose child could get into many things and some of them
weren't safe. "Are the proper doors locked?" He would hope so, but one never
knew.

"I hope so," Uegot grunted. "My wife will skin me if something happens to
her."

"Hold a moment then." Relik pulled out the distance writer on his desk. It
was a short version of the contraption some used instead of the drums. He
pushed out a quick message to the watchdesk to be on the lookout for a lost
child-female. "Ah I'd say the first place to check would be the watch desk.
I've let them know. What are her favorite things? Maybe she went exploring
to find something she likes?" He didn't want to upset Uegot but a lost child
especially in a hall still being built was unsafe.

"Playing, running around...swimming, watching people work," Uegot replied.

"Swimming?" That sounded like a possibility for danger, if she got out of
the Hall and down to the water. The playing wouldn't be a problem or the
watching people. Relik was just glad she wasn't playing the old
hide-and-seek game. That one had caused problems for him when his children
had been very young.

"Yes. Thankfully, she swims like a little dolphin," Uegot replied.

"Oh well...Check in with the watchdesk and then if you don't get any news of
her, let me know?" Relik didn't know what else to do. He wasn't very good
with children until they were older. His wives had always handled that.

"I will, thanks," Uegot replied and hurried off to search her.

Around quarter candlemark later, he came back, this time carrying a little
girl in his arm. He was scolding her. "Do not run off like that ever again,
you hear me! You gave me and your ma a scare. It's not funny and you could
get yourself hurt."

Hearing the noise, Relik suspected what had happened. "Found the little bit
then, good. No injuries or harm I hope?" He looked up and focused, searching
for any marks.

"No. Although she was heading for trouble," Uegot replied and grimaced.
"Your mama is going to be so angry when she hears where you were heading
at."

"And where was this?" If it was something that could be a safety concern in
future then Relik was all ears. They couldn't risk further injury by any
other children.

"You know the shed they keep lumber and tools?" Uegot replied. "Lot of sharp
objects and rickety piles of heavy items there." He shook his head and
scowled at the little girl. "Not a place for little children." She hung her
head. "I'm sorry, daddy."

"We'll have to change the locks for certain to make it harder to get into."
Relik frowned, thinking what might have happened. Of course next time her
parents should watch her a little more closely. His own children knew
better.

"And remind the construction workers to put the doors to lock," Uegot
grunted.
