Characters: D'kere, Ilyssia
Description: D'kere talks to Ilyssia about the circulating rumors.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 11, day 11 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Aluka, Z'then, E'zar
Notes:... are they true? :)
Having fed and bathed her young dragon, Ilyssia finished up oiling
Gwynnth's hide until the dark spring green glistened. She stepped
back to admire her handiwork, amazed at how much her lifemate had
already grown.
"You must be three weaver's lengths I'd say," she commented aloud.
}:Is that good?:{
**It's perfect. You're growing well.**
}:So I can fly soon?:{
**When the time is right, love, but not until.**
The green dragon huffed a bit at that, not particularly liking her
rider's answer.
Ilyssia straightened, self-consciously smoothing her tightly braided
hair as she saw the Weyrlingmaster Second approaching.
D'kere had known he would have to deal with various situations when he
joined the Weyrlingstaff, but he had never really planned on having
_this_ sort of a conversation, especially not with such a young one.
It still made him marvel that a fifteen Turn old had a dragon. It was
such a great responsibility for someone so young. Of course, Ilyssia
had been performing as good as any of the others so he had no
complaints about that.
"Ilyssia," he greeted with a smile, "how are you? Can I speak with you
for a minute?"
"I'm doing very well, sir. Of course, is there a problem?" Ilyssia
ran through everything in her mind. She though she'd been doing
fairly well in classes and drills so she didn't know what could be
wrong.
"Not a problem, exactly." D'kere said as he looked over Gwynnth's
recently oiled hide which gleamed in the sunlight. "It's just that
some rumors have been brought to my attention that I wanted to get
your opinion on." He glanced back at Ilyssia to see if she already
knew what rumors he was talking about.
Ilyssia did her best not to roll her eyes, she really did, but when
the Weyrlingmaster Second was asking about the rumors, well, this was
really getting out of control! "Would those be the ones where I'm a
compulsive thief, that I'm to be weyrmated as soon as I graduate, that
I'm with child, or that I dance naked and drink blood at the
convergence of Timor and Belior?" She knew that her sarcasm was out of
line but this was becoming somewhat annoying. Surely the
weyrlingstaff wasn't believing the local gossip.
D'kere's eyes narrowed, "I didn't ask for attitude, Ilyssia, but I
believe as a member of your Weyrlingstaff I have a right to be
concerned for you, hm? I didn't accuse you of anything, by the way, I
just wanted to make sure that you, and Gwynnth are alright. One of
your friends came to me wanting to make sure that the rumors weren't
effecting your Weyrling training." Dealing with snippy little girls
was still a part of the job that D'kere found irritating, but
inevitable.
A touch of color tinged Ilyssia's cheeks and she chided herself for her
impetuous response. Normally, she was in better control than that
which made her wonder if the rumors were bothering her more than she
realized. "I'm sorry, sir. When you asked, I just thought, well, it
doesn't matter. Gwynneth and I are just fine and I think we're doing
really well in classes. The rumors, well, it's just gossip and a
person shouldn't let words get under her skin. In case you _were_
wondering I'm not pregnant nor could I be. I'm not in a relationship
with anyone either so no plans of weyrmating." She chuckled at that.
Initially she had found all the talk about her and Aluka funny, but it
did get tiring having untrue things said about you.
A trickle of relief spread through him. Good. The last thing he needed
was a young, pregnant Weyrling. "Rumors go around pretty quickly at
the Weyr and just as quickly they are replaced by something else."
"Well, _I_ certainly wouldn't have thought my life was all that
interesting. Guess that's it maybe, some people just have to have a
Harper's drama to be entertained so if there's nothing there, they
just gotta make something up. I was able to laugh at most of it, but
I guess it might have been bothering me just a tad. Sorry again for
getting uppity."
A smile touched the corners of D'kere's mouth, "Apology accepted. I
imagine it must get annoying being asked about it. I'll let Aluka know
he can rest easy then."
"Thank you, sir. Was there anything else?
D'kere shook his head, causing the hair that he'd raked back earlier
to swing down into his eyes, "Nothing else major." He rolled his
shoulders, "Are you making friends in your Weyrling class despite the
rumors then?"
"I am. Relika's quite nice and sensible and I get on fine with
several of the male riders. I didn't really grow up around other
girls and I'm not much for gossip and drama so I guess I have fewer
mates in the barracks," she shrugged. Though only fourteen turns, she
sometimes felt far more mature than some of the silly wherries in the
barracks. "I have friends, though."
"Good. I notice you seem comfortable around the twins." D'kere said,
mentioning E'zar and Z'then. He still didn't know what to make of the
two identical boys who were so different from one another that you
would never guess they'd come from the same womb had they not shared
exactly the same appearance.
"Oh, sure," Ilyssia nodded. "They're both good guys, though as
different as can be, well, in some ways. In some ways their the same,
too," she said thoughtfully. E'zar was more cocksure and the obvious
leader while Z'then was more quiet. Z'then had shown himself willing
to stand up when the need required, though. "It was great that they
Impressed at the same Hatching. It would have been sad had one been
left behind."
Ilyssia's observation on the twins was the same that D'kere had made
himself, "Yes, twin brothers both riding brown. Something I've never
seen before myself." Twins were rare enough and then to both Impress
at the same Hatching... Lucky!
"Yeah, twins aren't that common at all, but then for both to Impress
th same color," she grinned, "Some people were having trouble telling
them apart as it was, now their really going to struggle. Though
really Chenreth's ash brown and Juvath's auburn brown are pretty
different from each other."
}:You're needed back at the office. Erella and her green want to talk
to her.:{ Kenirath interrupted his thoughts about the twin
brownriders.
Erella. D'kere pinched the bridge of his nose. The girl had been
raised with a sailor for a father and could curse a blue streak that
would send even the most weyrbed of dragonriders blushing. Not only
that but she frequently used such profanity and cursing in regular
conversation as she was still learning how to filter it out.
"I am needed back at the office. If you need anything, or if these
rumors get worse or if you ever need to talk, my door is open." D'kere
assured Ilyssia.
"Thank you, sir," Ilyssia answered with a nod.
