Description: The new parents dote on their son and discuss wedding plans.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 12, day 4 of Turn 7
It was hard to believe that a full month had passed already. Holding
little Ahimell in his arms, Famell brushed his hand across the babe's
forehead. The little boy opened his eyes and blinked. His little hands
curled up in fists as he managed to wriggle them free from the
blanket. That soon brought a loud cry from his tiny lungs and some
flailing of arms.
"I, um, think he might need you," Famell said, shifting to hold the
baby out to Shilara with a look that clearly indicated he hoped she
would take the child. He was always so afraid to drop Ahimell when he
started squirming and fussing.
"Yes, I do believe he's wanting something that you are not equipped to
handle." Shilara winked at Famell as she took the wriggling babe, her
movements confident and sure as she scooped him up with one arm while
her free hand began unbuttoning her shirt. Sitting down in the rocking
chair that was placed by the window that faced the ocean, Shilara
pressed the nuzzling child's face to her breast. "Lunch time." She
murmured, waggling her eyebrows at Famell. In many ways the
journeywoman was glad that only she could provide this type of
nourishment for Ahimell. It created a special bond between her and the
babe that she cherished. After all, she had no doubt that once the
child grew into a young boy he would be far more interested in the
things that his father could do.
Famell watched, as he always did, with an air of both awe and
satisfaction. Knowing that the women he loved cradled the son he
adored sent waves of emotion running through him. He had to look away
for a moment to collect himself before turning back to her with a
smile.
"You handle him with such ease. You amaze me more and more with each
moment," he remarked, finding all he wanted right now as to hold her
and Ahimell close in his arms. Together. All of them.
Shilara smiled up at Famell, "I carried him in my body for months. I
am his mother. I should know how to handle him." She said this in a
soft voice as she looked down and ran her fingers over the child's
downy cap of hair.
Famell pondered what it _truly_ must feel like to have a babe inside
you. Shaking his head, he had to admit he was glad _he_ had not had to
go through it all...especially the bedrest near the end. Dealing with
his own illness had been hard enough, but to be _healthy_ and confined
to bed. He didn't know how he could handle it.
He smiled in her direction as he watched, "You amaze me, Shilara.
Today and everyday. I am so proud of you and our son."
She looked up at him, a teasing smile on her face, "You know what
would amaze me? Actually carrying through with our wedding
preperations." With the complication in her pregnancy and Famell's
illness things in that area had been put on hold for a while. Now that
Ahimell was safely here, Shilara was ready to begin thinking about
dresses and flowers and parties again.
Famell's face broke into a wide grin. "Now _that_ is something I _can_
do! Pick a day, any day, my dear and I will make it happen! Perhaps
not tomorrow," he chuckled a bit, "I don't even think Jylanya could
make things happen _that_ fast!"
"Soon. Me, you, down on the beach with just our family, friends, and
dolphins." Months ago Shilara had wanted a big elaborate ordeal, but
now none of the pomp and circumstance seemed to matter any more.
"That sounds fine to me. I will have to invite a _few_ dignitaries. I
kind of mentioned to Relik from the Seacraft Hall that he'd be
invited. And I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't invite Cyradis
and N'vanik, after all the Weyr has done for the Hall." He hoped she
understood that as Hallmaster he had to appease the others.
Shilara smiled, not deterred at all, "I think I can live with a few
important folk at my wedding." She knew marrying the Hallmaster
brought with it a few conditions, but she didn't mind. As long as
Famell was there, she didn't care if all of Pern showed up.
"Alright then, we'd best start planning if we're going to make this
happen soon!" Famell stood, leaned over her and kissed her and
Ahimell. "I'll go speak with Jylanya so we can get things going. How
about we try for the end of the month?"
"I think that sounds wonderful." So it was finally going to happen.
Even though Shilara didn't need a marriage and vows to make her feel
secure about her relationship with Famell, the idea of the wedding
still brought her a sort of excitement that she hadn't expected.
"It will be wonderful," he assured her, a smile full and bright on his
face at her happiness.
