Kids Say the Yuckiest Things

Description: Elona and Aileyan make friends over something they have in common.

Date: month 1, day 18 of Turn 8

Aileyan was picking Ravyan directly from the creche today, instead of the fostermother's weyr like she usully did. Soon her son would start his harper lessons and Aileyan wondered where did all those Turns go?

"Momie!" Ravyan cried joyously when he spotted her. He was playing with some younger kids.

"Hey, darling," Aileyan's face brightened. "How's your day been?"

"S´good. Getten got sick and threw up _aaall_ over," Ravyan told her, bubbling with excitement and ran to hug her. "There was puke _everywhere_," that seemed to be the highlight of his day. "He has climps in his hair too."

"Eew, I hope it's not contagious," Aileyan murmured.

Elona couldn't help overhearing and grimaced. "I hope not too." Elonus had only just recovered from a sniffle.

"Last thing I need in my life is stomach flu," Aileyan gave the younger woman friendly but shy smile.

"Same here." Elona wrinkled her nose. "The smell is disgusting." It was enough to make her want to be sick too.

"Oh, yes," Aileyan rolled her eyes in complete agreement.

"Why do little boys think it's so fun?" Elona asked.

"I don't know. They seem to like everything we find disgusting," Aileyan replied.

"Especially snot." Elona grimaced.

"Don't mention that," Aileyan said with exaggareted, horrified expression and actually covered Ravyan's ears. They boy giggled.

"Did you say snot mamma?" Elonus asked as he trotted up. "I sneezed and got snot on my face."

"Lovely." Elona looked apologetically at Aileyan.

Aileyan bursted out laughing. "I'm Aileyan, by the way, and this is Ravyan," she introduced herself after she recovered.

"I'm Elona. This charming boy is Elonus." The little boy grinned, all dimples and tiny baby teeth. "Don't be fooled by the cute face," she added.

"Don't worry, I know the little boys and how devious they can be," Aileyan replied with a wink and ruffled Ravyan's hair.

"I'm sure little girls are just as bad," Elona said to be fair. "Are you two headed over for dinner?"

"Yes, we are," Aileyan replied.

"Maybe we could eat together? I think the boys might like it."

Elonus was nodding and grinning at least.

"Yes," Ravyan said and Aileyan chuckled.

"Sounds good to me," she smiled.

"All right then." Elona gestured toward the doorway. "I'm sure Elonus is hoping for stew for dinner."

"Yuck!" He stuck out his tongue in disgust. "Not stew!"

"What's wrong with stew?" Ravyan asked. He generally ate everything except peas that got pushed to the edge of his plate and left there. He had even tried feeding them to Aileyan's firelizard, but Timor didn't accept greens.

"It tastes like spew," Elonus replied. "Looks like spew too!"

"Does not!" Ravyan argued and shook his fist at the younger boy.

"Cut it out before you even start that," Aileyan snapped and snatched Ravyan's hand in hers before he could use it.

Elona did likewise with her son. Sometimes it'd be nice to have a quite dinner. "Life with boys is never dull," she said.

"Oh, I totally agree with you," Aileyan said with a smile for the younger woman. Looked like she was making a new friend here.
