Description: Discuss the new Hallmaster and what this change means.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 3, day 7 of Turn 8

The news wasn't new any longer, and the former Hallmaster had just left
after the arrival of the new. While Irabel had been introduced him with all
the other dolphineers, she had yet to meet him face to face. Of those in
the Hall, the reaction to the change was mixed. Some were annoyed. Some
were angry. Some didn't care. For Irabel, she had returned from a several
month trip mapping some islands that had not been previously mapped only to
be hit by the news. Her first full day back had been to the announcement
that the new Hallmaster had arrived - after which she'd learned that Famell
was leaving which explained the change. Even more surprising to her was
the person who was not chosen as the new Hallmaster, even if just as acting
Hallmaster.
That very person was the one she sought out the next day after everyone had
been 'introduced' to Endarin. When she espied him on the beach, Irabel
pondered leaving him be, then changed her mind and approached. "Thayde?"
She called softly when she drew near.
Thayde was sitting on the shoreline, close enough that the surf washed over
his feet as he watched the sun traveling downward. The voice was a familiar
one, one that he had not heard in quite a while.
"Irabel," he turned to look at her, "you're back."
She nodded and lowered down to perch beside him. After settling herself
down, she clapped her hands together to rid them of excess sand, then drew
up her legs to fold her arms over them. "Came back to the news.::
"Some news." Thayde spat with bitterness in his voice.
He was in the camp of those who were upset. "Yeah." Irabel muttered, the
hold upon her legs tightening. "It was...unexpected, to say the least."
Even more so was the choice in acting Hallmaster. Was that why Thayde was
bitter, or by Famell's departure? "You seem...disturbed by it."
Thayde was normally the epitome of laid back and easy going, but he'd been
upset ever since Famell had told him he was leaving. "I guess I blame
Famell, for just up and leaving us like this, and for bringing in a
stranger who doesn't know the first thing about us. What was the point of
having me as Hallsecond if you're just going to pick someone else?"
It was as she suspected and Irabel nodded. "I'm sorry. I...I think you
would make a good Hallmaster." Perhaps they would still pick him since the
current one was only 'acting'. "Anything...I can do to help?"
"I'm just going to have to get over it is all," he shoved his fingers
through his hair, and then finally smiled a little. "Enough of that. How
was your trip?" His gaze swept over her, "You look good."
"It was fine. Got a good look at those islands and an accurate map of them
now." Irabel and her team hadn't had time to really explore them, and that
would have to be done by someone else anyway. "I'm glad to be back home
though."
"I am glad you are back, it's been a little dull without you. No one else
has twisted their ankle and needed my assistance." He teased.
The comment brought a hint of colour into Irabel's cheeks. "No offense, but
I hope I don't do that any time soon." Irabel shifted slightly to get into
a more comfortable position, then cast a sidelong glance toward her
companion. "You're going to be okay, right?"
Her question made Thayde smile again, and lifted his broody mood, "I'll be
fine, I'm not going to throw myself off the pier or anything."
"Well that's good. I'd have to go and rescue you." Irabel managed a small
smile in return. "Have you caught any fireflies lately?"
"No, I haven't." he confessed. "It's not as much fun by myself. A pretty
woman makes everything more fun." He winked.
More colour sprang into Irabel's face and she quickly turned her gaze back
to the water. After a moment of shuffling for words, she managed, "If you
would like company...I'd be willing."
Thayde mulled over the woman's words for a moment before coming to the
solid conclusion that she was offering to catch fireflies with him. "I will
let you know the next time I go, then. I wouldn't want to risk your ankle
the first night back."
"Probably wise." Irabel really hoped she didn't make quite such a fool of
herself again. "I hope you know," She stated after a moment of silence,
"That I think you would make a very good Hallmaster."
"Thanks, Irabel, that means a lot." Thayde respected Irabel and her
opinion, she was someone that he looked upon as an equal, even if they
weren't the same rank.
Irabel glanced back toward the Hall proper, then managed again. "Should
probably get some dinner. Do you...want to join me?"
Thayde stood and offered his hand to Irabel to help her up, "Dinner would
be great."
Irabel slowly accepted the hand and allowed him to tug her up to her feet
before turning back toward the Hall - and dinner.
