W'ser

G'nir was drinking, something he shouldn't do, since he didn't handle
alcohol very well. He was normally more cautious. His expression was so
dark that people gave him wide berth.

Having grown up at Dragonsfall and lived his entire life there, W'ser had
weathered many changes throughout the Turns. He had been one of the ones
who had sat and drank with G'nir after Hygalia left, and now that the man
had lost the position that meant so much to him, W'ser felt it his duty to
be there for his friend.

Sitting down beside of the former Weyrleader, W'ser nodded to the barkeep,
"I'll have a glass of what he's having."

"W'ser," G'nir lifted his glass for the brownrider. "A fine, old scotch,"
he told the barkeep.

W'ser inclined his head to the man behind the counter after his glass was
placed down on the polished wood. Raising the glass to his lips, W'ser took
a sip and then hissed a little through his teeth, "Hm, that has a bite."

He set the glass down and looked over at G'nir, "You decided what you are
going to do yet?"

"Besides getting drunk and trying to forget? No, I haven't," G'nir replied.
"Right now, I'm not in a mood to decide either." As a perfectionist by
nature, G'nir took failures hard. In his mind, losing Weyrleadership was a
very big failure. It would take days, even sevendays before he could get
over it.

W'ser couldn't blame him there, after something like that it was probably
best not to make any sort of major decisions. "For what it is worth, I'm
sorry. You have been really good for Dragonsfall."

"Thank's W'ser. I can only hope my work won't get wasted," G'nir replied.

"I think a lot of peopel are worried. Within the span of a turn and a half
an outsider Weyrwoman comes into power and not an outsider bronzerider
becomes Weyrleader." It was weird how quickly things could change.

"Yes, on a whim of a dragon. Two sharding Turns. That's long I was
Weyrleader," he toasted.

W'ser raised his glass, "To your service to the Weyr."

"At least someone appreciates it," G'nir replied to the toast. Actually,
there had been surprisingly many people who had offered help or condolences.

"There is always her next Flight. Nirreth has proven himself to be
proficient at catching a gold." W'ser pointed out.

"Yes, there is. But Saibra doesn't like me," G'nir replied broodily.

W'ser lifted his shoulders at that. He'd worked with the Weyrwoman on many
occassions in the dragon infirmary since she was a dragonhealer, and he
felt that she could sometimes be fickle when it came to her feelings
towards people. "You've got a Turn to change that. You two seemed to start
out all right."

"Yes, we did. Only Faranth knows why it changed. Am I really too closed
off?" G'nir replied and asked.

The Weyrdragonhealer hesitated a moment before answering that. "You might
be a little closed off, but you've had a lot on your plate, especially
after Hygalia and U'kaiah ran off."

G'nir stared him and emptied his glass. "Aren't you being diplomatic?
Personally, I blame my father. Fathers are good scrapegoats. Anything that
goes wrong is the old man's fault." He sounded drunk.

W'ser barked out a little laugh, "How do you think I've made it this long
at Dragonsfall? Being diplomatic is a saving trait."

"Maybe that's why I like you," G'nir pondered. He was normally diplomatic
himself. Of course, right now he was as far from normal as he could be.

"I can't imagine what you are feeling," and thanks to Branth's brown hide
he never would, "but maybe you could just look at this like a vacation."

"Vacation? What's that?" G'nir snorted. "Although, I could use little more
time with my little girl," he added after a moment's pause, sounding
wistful.

"Just relax and enjoy not having so many responsibilities. I am sure it
won't be that way long. You're too good at leading to just fade into the
background." W'ser promised.

"That's for sure. If not here, then in some other Weyr," G'nir replied. He
had transferred before, he could do it again. Dragonsfall always would have
a speacial place in his heart, he had Impressed Nirreth here.
