Description: Thayde resigns as Hallsecond.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 3, day 15 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Irabel
Thayde had given it a lot of thought, especially since he hadn't slept any
after finally walking Irabel back to her room. For a bit he'd had some hope
that maybe everything in his life would settle out after Famell left, but
Irabel's thorough rejection of him made it very clear that things would not
work out.
Now not only was Thayde unhappy with his position at the Hall, but with his
position in life as well. He just needed time and space to think, and he
couldn't very well do that as the Hallsecond. That train of thought had led
him to the Hallmaster's office early that morning.
The words "I'm resigning" had felt hollow even as they escaped his lips. It
made him a little angry that the new Hallmaster didn't even seem surprised
by the declaration.
"I'll work a notice if you would like until you find someone." Thayde
offered, not particularly because he wanted to help out Endarin, but
because it was the right thing to do.
Endarin had already been considering people for the Hallsecond position. It
wasn't that Thayde had necessarily done anything wrong, but it was
Endarin's firm belief that the other man was too young and too recently
made a Master to be the Hallsecond. There was already another that Endarin
felt was better suited for the job.
"No, that won't be necessary. Will you be staying on with us at the Hall?"
Endarin inquired.
"Yes, but I would like to request a couple of sevendays away. A short term
hiatus." Thayde hadn't decided where he would go yet.
Endarin considered the request. Just giving someone a fortnight vacation
wasn't something he normally approved of, but there was something about the
look in Thayde's eyes...
"I have some things that need to be delivered back to Topaz Hold, you could
take those and then stay a few extra days while you are there."
Thayde saw the man's offer for the olive branch that it was. "I can do
that. If you approve I'll leave out in about three days."
"That should be fine. Are you taking your partner with you?"
Ada was something that Thayde hadn't considered yet. The trip to Topaz
Seahold wasn't far, and he was only going to be gone for a short while.
"No, she's been working and doing therapy with some of the injured
dolphins, I won't take her away from that." he said.
"We'll make sure she's looked after while you are gone then." Endarin
assured Thayde.
Thayde pushed up to leave and then paused. Slowly he reached up and pulled
off the rank knots that marked him as the Hallsecond. He fingered the cords
lightly, remembering how proud he had been when Famell had given them to
him. A chapter in his life closed.
"Good day, sir." He left the cords on the Hallmaster's desk and walked from
his office.
