Description: A visiting dolphineer checks in via Endarin.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 3, day 16 of Turn 8
The Dolphin Hall was beautiful, that beauty enhanced by its surroundings.
Meridisa was not unfamiliar with it as she had been a part of the Southern
Hall twenty- some turns prior, but had not taken the effort to travel as
far South in recent turns. With the opportunity to take some time away
from her own position, that had chanced. While she and her daughter
conversed through occasional letters, it had been far too long since they'd
seen each other face to face.
The trip to the Hallmaster's office hadn't changed either, though there
were other more subtle changes. Decorations had been shifted, different
tapestries alighted upon the walls. More docks had been built, more
dolphins were present, as well as more people, and leaders had shifted as
well. She'd heard of the recent change in particular with the Hallmaster
and figured if Famell wanted to throw away his craft, that was his choice.
With a short series of sharp raps upon the door, Meridisa announced her
arrival, then entered when she heard the call.
"Hallmaster Endarin." With no fanfare, Meri greeted the man with a curt
nod. "Meridisa, dolphineer, arriving from Southern Boll."
"Sit." Endarin pointed at the chair positioned in front of his desk. He
also spoke with no fanfare, and instead got quickly to the point. "Your
reasons for visiting the Hall?" There was a ledger open in front of him on
the desk, where he penciled in her name in neat, tidy script.
"I'm here to visit my daughter, Irabel." Since the last time Meri had
taken time away from her craft had been years ago, she figured it was due.
"I'll be here for a few sevendays, then return."
Endarin filled that information into the book with meticulous detail. He
remembered Irabel from the brief meeting he'd had that first sevenday he'd
arrived. Endarin remembered being somewhat impressed that the dolphineer
wasn't a silly woman, as he had been afraid a female crafter would be.
"Our Headwoman, Jylanya, can arrange quarters for you while you're here.
Did your partner travel with you?" he asked.
"Yes, she's already making acquaintances with the pod." Meri hadn't
protested at all when Gifa immediately separated on their arrival so she
could connect with the other dolphins. "I'm sure she'll be no trouble."
"I wouldn't expect so, I merely inquired so I could offer your dolphin
anything that she might need during her stay." A formality more than
anything, clearly the Dolphin Hall would take care of a visiting dolphin.
He was sure Keva would have something interesting to say about the visiting
dolphin when he went down to the pier later.
"You were with the Hall here once, correct?" he asked.
"Quite a few turns ago, but yes." Meri nodded once. "But then I
transferred back North. Irabel stayed." A decision she hadn't been happy
about and the two had quite a row, but in the end, the younger woman had
her way. That decision had widened the rift that was already between them.
"What made you decide to leave?" Endarin asked curiously.
"I transferred here when a specific request came for Dolphineers to come.
After a few turns, another call came, this time from Southern. I find the
North more to my liking, so I accepted." Why the Hallmaster needed to
know, Meridisa couldn't say. Perhaps he was making small talk.
**Good, at least it had nothing to do with the Hall.** Endarin wanted to
make sure that the Dolphin Hall was a place that dolphineers preferred to
be located, rather than losing them to remote locations.
"If there is nothing else, you're free to go. Enjoy your stay." Endarin
said by way of dismissal.
"Thank you." Meridisa rose and, allowing another short nod, turned to
leave. That had been painless, but she hadn't really expected any issues.
Now she could go find her daughter. Hopefully they could get through the
visit without any major fights.
Endarin watched the woman go, his eyes narrowing slightly as he considered
her. He didn't know why he had an uneasy feeling about her in the pit of
his stomach. She'd acted very professional, polished, calculated, even,
which were all things he typically admired in a worker, especially when a
_female_ was able to showcase such qualities. There had just been something
about the look in the woman's eyes, like she was on a mission, that made
Endarin think her stay at the Dolphin Hall might be an eventful one.
