Description: Sharev meets his new Hallmaster

Date: month 3, day 10 of Turn 8
Wasn't it typical; go away for a few days and everything changes. Perhaps that was an exaggeration, but things had changed, and quickly. Sharev had had time to put his bag in his room and then he'd gone right to see the hall's new master. They might not be too formal here, but he still knocked politely on the door.
"Come in." Endarin called in his typical clipped tone.
**What in the name of...** He frowned as he opened up a bottom drawer to find empty sweet wrappers littering the bottom. **Fameeelllll!** He mentally growled, betting his friend had left the trash in the drawer on purpose, knowing he would find it at some point.
Sharev walked in, barely cognisant of the fact that his shirt was rumpled and he had several days of growth on his chin. He rarely bothered with appearances, unless he had to, especially shaving.
"Master Endarin," he greeted simply.
"Have a seat." Endarin gestured without looking up. Rummaging through the trash-littered drawer he found the extra pencil he had been looking for. When he did look up, his right eyebrow only moved a fraction at the other dolphineer's sloppy appearance.
"What's your name? I haven't seen you around the Hall." There were several dolphineers that Endarin had not encountered yet because they were away on assignments.
"Sharev," he replied, assuming a relaxed posture in a chair. "I've been away. I thought I should report back as soon as I arrived. Is this a bad time?"
"No." Endarin simply said as he pulled out the roster sheet that Famell had left and looked down for Sharev's name. Recording that the dolphineer was back from duty, he then turned his attention back to the man. "Clearly I am Master Endarin, the new Hallmaster. Tell me about yourself, Sharev." He could have read the information from what Famell had left but Endarin felt the way a purpose spoke about themselves was much more telling than words on paper.
Himself was Sharev's least favourite topic. He shrugged. "There's not much to tell. I hold the rank of master and I have a thing for finding wrecks and dragging them up off the sea floor. Plus I do rescue and recovery when necessary."
Endarin was not impressed by the shrug. "Let's try again, I'll help you out. How long have you been here? How long have you been in training? And what was the most recent project you worked on?"
Sharev resisted the urge to smirk. At least he now knew what to expect. "Sorry sir." He even sat up a little straighter. "I've been here since the hall was established, and in the south since the first dolphineer scams down here, apart from a turn back up north as a journeyman. I worked with the seacrafters to better understand currents. I've been in training for around thirty turns." And always would be, because there was always something new to learn.
"Most recently I helped search for and find some seacrafters who had been blown off course and run aground during a storm."
"How did the search go?" Endarin asked with genuine curiosity.
"Good. They were getting tired of eating fish, but otherwise they were unhurt. Turns out they'd almost finished the necessary repairs, but the shipbuilders we took with us helped out and we got them back on the water and to a hold." Sharev smiled to himself as he recalled the cries of joy from worried families back on shore.
Endarin was glad to see that the dolphineer took some pride in his work, at first glance he hadn't been so sure. "How was the relationship with the Weyr when the first wave of dolphineers came down?" So far Sharev was the first person that Endarin had met who had been there at the beginning.
"It was a little touchy at first," Sharev replied. "Some people seemed to think we're just swimming around having fun." And sometimes that was true. "Once they realised we're actually useful and work hard, they were happy to accept us."
That was mostly what Endarin had gathered from what he'd read, it was something he would like to look further into, for curiosity's sake. "Well, thank you for reporting in Sharev. Take a few days and rest and then you can return to some normal duties around the Hall until your next assignment."
"Actually I was hoping you'd let me start putting together a list of apprentices I could take out with me next time," Sharev asked. "With a view to seeing if they'd like to choose the same speciality."
"Sure, you should get together with Master Talern, he was getting together and doing some practice dives and rescue training with the apprentices. He might have some insight on those who are doing well." Endarin suggested.
Sharev nodded. "I know some had had no chance to go out, so I'd especially like to include them." He thought back to his earlier conversation with Milga. "And maybe the most promising of the journeyfolk."
"When you have compiled your list I would like to look over it, I am curious myself to see which of the youth show an aptitude for rescue and salvage work."
"Will do." Sharev nodded again. "It should be a good sized contingent."
Endarin hoped so, but then what he was more curious to see was how Sharev handled the task. The Hallmaster was quietly watching and weighing all of his dolphineers so that he might put them in the place that would be most advantageous for the Hall.
