L'pin sighed, looking down at his shirt. It had ripped in the Dining Caverns, worse than he could fix, catching on a protrusion he hadn't noticed. So instead of eating, he was now seeking out the Headwoman looking for a new shirt. **I hope she won't mind too much.**
What L'pin didn't quite realize was just how his shirt looked. He preferred to mend shirts and wear his clothes out for as long as possible, so as they approached the end of their lives, his shirts were always extremely faded, worn, and patched. The only not-patchy clothes he owned was one formal set and his riding leathers. Right now, his shirt and pants were worn, faded, and tattered- without his shoulder knots he would probably be thought of as a Holdless vagabond rather than a Weyrlingmaster.
Finally he spied the Headwoman. Unaware of how bedraggled he looked even without the rip, he addressed her. "Err... Headwoman Mayla?"
Mayla, her back to L'pin was taken by surprise. Hearing her name called she turned around, finding herself face to face with the most disheveled man she had seen in ages, "shards man, are you okay?"
"I'm all right." L'pin said, looking sheepish, "but I'm afraid I've ripped my shirt and will be needing a new one. Maybe a few more new things. Can you help me out with that?"
"Of course," Mayla said warmly, "what happened to that shirt to make it become a such a rag?"
"Well, it got torn just now." he admitted. "As for before that... Turns of use and patching."
"You do know that we can give you a new tunic?" Mayla asked suspiciously, "I know that we don't encourage a new clothes every month or so, but when necessesary its not a problem."
"Oh, I know, but I haven't been here more than a few days, and I didn't want to come in and rob all of your clothes." he said sheepishly. "Oh, I'm L'pin, rider of blue Chaneth!" he added belatedly.
"Mayla, Headwoman," she introduced herself, "and I wouldn't worry about robbing us of all of our clothes. We definetly have more than enough. And if we run out I would be more than happy to try and assign a few misbehaving candidates to sew a few more. Not that they would be able to, but it would be an interesting punishment..." Mayla laughed a bit to herself. She was constatly looking for new punishments for the ever errant candidates, especially around a hatching.
"That would be funny." L'pin admitted. "Especially for the more rambunctious types who can't stand that kind of work."
"See, so by taking a shirt you would really be doing the whole Weyr a favour," Mayla insisted, hoping that L'oin wouldn't try to follow her logic, "now com along and we'll see what we can find for you in the stores."
"Alright then." L'pin said easily, following her. "I could probably use a few new things, but I don't want to take too much away from you."
"Then follow me," Mayla said, leading the way to the storerooms.
L'pin did so. "How are things going with this batch of candidates- are they misbehaving much?"
"Not as bad as usual," Mayla said as they reached the store room.
"That's good." L'pin said, nodding. "That means less for me to deal with." he joked, laughing.
"Take whatever you need," the Headwoman said, gesturing to the shelves which contained various clothing articles, "and don 't be afraid to ask next time you are in need of something."
"I will, and thank you." he said. "It was a pleasure to meet you." he added, heading towards the shelves to begin looking for a shirt thta would fit him.
