Description: Endarin offers Irabel a promotion to Master after her work rescuing Thayde and Zathris.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 6, day 21 of Turn 8
Endarin's brow furrowed as he tilted his head and doodled the word "Master" on the scratch piece of paper on his desk. He drew squiggly circles around the word as he contemplated which of his senior journeymen had completed their work and were ready to be promoted. There were a few he dismissed from thought immediately, knowing them to be too immature to be ready for such a position of responsibility.
And then there was one name: Irabel. A woman. His lips twitched a bit as he then wrote her name beside of the doodled "Master" he'd drawn earlier. Everything he'd been raised to believe told him that a woman should not be doing the job of a man. Her place was supporting her husband and raising children. But despite all that, he found himself sometimes admiring Irabel's work ethic and dedication to the craft. She didn't let anything distract her from work. He hadn't even seen her _dating_, and Faranth knew enough of that went on among his apprentices and journeymen.
Irabel's work on charting the new, western most islands, where Zathris and Thayde had been found, and her dedication to their rescue qualified for her for her Mastery in Salvage and Rescue. And that was why he'd set up a meeting with her, to discuss her promotion.
"Excellent, I didn't think you would object. You've proven yourself in the area of Search and Rescue, I believe a lot of our journeyman and apprentices could learn from your dedication and initiative." Those were the exact words that Endarin would have said to the finest male dolphineer, and in this instance, Irabel just happened to be female. An exception in Endarin's book.
"I appreciate the compliment, sir." Irabel hadn't expected that, as far as she knew, Endarin hadn't given out many compliments. Of course, she'd not been really paying attention either, so she probably shouldn't infer anything. "I also appreciate the opportunities you've given me."
"Of course nothing is official until after the ceremony, but should you want to invite any family to it this should give them enough notice to attend." Endarin had briefly met Irabel's mother once before, but he was uncertain if she had others who might like to be there.
That made the woman pause. The question was, did she want her mother to attend? The woman was the only family she had, other than her dolphineer family. Thayde...but he would be there, thankfully. "I'll be sure to do that. Is there...anything else, sir?"
The Hallmaster shook his head, "No, that is all. Oh," the corners of his mouth lifted marginally, "and congratulations."
Thank you sir." Irabel inclined her head respectfully, then turned and left - to make her way to a specific door.
