Genna

"Well, I'm just glad you're alright," Genna said, giving her friend another firm hug. She couldn't imagine how scary it was, to have something wrong with you that the Healers can't figure out. Lucky for Eloma the dolphins had been able to tell the growth was benign and that it could be removed safely.

Eloma rejoiced in the hug, her eyes still showing obvious relief. "And the dolphins were so kind too, like they really got how worried I was."

"You know, I've never actually seen a dolpin," Genna said with a smile. "Though I hear they are awesome. I would love to visit the Dolphin Hall someday."

"Why don't you? It's just one /between/ away and I'm sure they'd be thrilled to show a goldrider around. They're good people."

Genna considered that for a moment, then nodded. Why not?

It was a sevenday or so later that Genna and Lissath appeared above the Dolphin Hall and glided down to the appropriate landing spot. The Hall had to be somewhat used to dragons, seeing as they had a Weyr so close by. Genna waved at the figure of a man coming closer, guessing that was her tour-guide. She'd put in an official request to visit, figuring that was better than just showing up unannounced and the Hall had insisted on having someone show her around. Nothing wrong with that, she figured, as long as she wasn't keeping anyone from important work.

"Greetings, Goldrider Genna, I'm Master Dolphineer Naton and I'm here to show you around the Dolphin Hall today. It's so nice of you to show interest in our work." He looked up at the girl atop the huge dragon, though he really wanted to be taking in the sight of her gorgeous beast. It wasn't that often that a gold visited the Hall, even more rare that it was one from beyond Dolphin Cove Weyr.

**Oh my, they sent a Master?**

"Greetings to you as well, Master Naton. I hope I'm not keeping you from more pressing duties?" Genna dismounted quickly to shake the man's hand. Lissath looked at him for a moment, before turning her attention to observing her surroundings.

}: Where are these dolphins? I hear they are great company in the water. :{

**Patience, my love, you'll meet them soon enough. Time to be polite first.**

Naton first showed Genna around the Hall, introducing her to some of the people and meanwhile explaining about the various duties the Dolphin Hall performed. Genna was intrigued and fired question after question.

"So, without the dolphins, there would be no way to know where the larger schools of fish are at?" she asked curiously. All she had ever heard about dolphins was that they could detect pregnancies and that they saved people from shipwrecks. All these other duties – weather reports, tracking of fish, mapping, she had never thought of those.

"Well, a Seacrafter will know where to find them to some extent, through experience, but if there's a dolphin pod working with them, the haul is likely to be doubled," Naton was happy to explain. The young goldrider was nice enough and he was flattered by her interest.

"Now this here is the stairs that will lead us down to the pier. You said your dragon was interested in meeting the dolphins? You can tell her to come meet us, if she still wants to," Naton said, motioning down at the pier. He expected the dolphins would flock to them as soon as Lissath's golden hide touched the water. Most dolphins absolutely adored dragons and the games they would play. "Can she handle a little play? The dolphins will probably be all over her at once."

Genna laughed at the last question. "I'm sure she will be highly amused."

**Lissath, you can meet us down at the water. The Master says the dolphins will come. They will want to play with you, he says.**

At the mention of play, Lissath's head perked up curiously. }: How does one play with a sea creature? :{ she asked, while gliding down to the water as Genna and Naton descended the stairs.

**I have no clue, we'll have to wait and see.**

And indeed, almost as soon as Lissath took to the water, a small group of dolphins spurted over from Faranth knows where. Hearing them click and squee in excitement, Genna couldn't help but laugh. "Jolly fellows, aren't they?"

Naton grinned and nodded vigorously. "It's one thing I love about being a dolphineer. Dolphins are real life enthusiast and that tends to be infectious."

}: Oh, look! They can jump! :{ Lissath called out to her rider in amusement. }: Oh, I know, I'll make a circle with my tail. Hey, guys, can you jump through here? :{

Soon enough Lissath had figured out all by herself how to play with the dolphins and both Genna and Naton observed with wide smiles. "Do you want to get in yourself? Meet them up close?" Naton asked the young goldrider, unsure if she had packed any swim gear.

Genna shook her head. "It's a little too chilly for swimming for me right now, I've got a little cold going on," she gestured at her slightly red and sniffy nose. Dragonsfall's climate was one to produce sniffles. "But maybe when it gets warmer again, I will come back for a swim. If that is okay?"

"Oh yes, certainly, just send me a note and I'll be happy to receive you again. It's always nice when people show interest in our work."

"Thank you, it is a fascinating profession. I'm amazed you aren't overrun with apprentices, I can imagine any child that's familiar with dolphins will want to come here to craft." Not to mention that they allowed girls to craft, now that was something really interesting.

"Well, fun as it is with the dolphins, it can be a tough profession too," Naton said a little more seriously. "You must have heard we almost lost one of our Masters after a shipwreck just recently. He was with Lord Zathris. We're blessed to have him returned to us, but it's just one example of the hardships we sometimes face. The storms, long sevendays away from home, it can be demanding."

"Ah, yes, I see," Genna nodded seriously. "I guess it's easy to romanticize." She looked back at Lissath playing with the dolphins and the smile returned to her face. "Well, at least us visitors can just come and have fun, eh? It is getting a little nippy out. Can we perhaps go inside, so you can show me those lights you talked about? Those sound really interesting."

**Ah, what a kind young lady,** Naton thought to himself. **She's not just here to play with the dolphins, she actually wants to know what we do here.**

"I'd be happy to, follow me inside. I trust your golden lady there will be fine like this?"

Genna nodded. "She'll play for a while and then go find a place to dry. Your dolphins are okay to keep playing for a while?"

Naton laughed yet again. "They're not /my/ dolphins, but they are always okay to play. No worries."

And while talking about all things dolphin, the pair ascended the stairs again to go back inside. Genna was glad she'd taken the time for this trip. And when the weather improved, she'd certainly return to meet the dolphins a little more close-up.
