Description: Onnyth's clutch hatches
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 9 of Turn 8
At least Onnyth had waited to just after the midday meal before
announcing she was heading to the sands.
Imperiously, she told her rider. }: _I_ will get settled, then you can
call my mate.:{
The words weren't quite like her, but in Teseada's experience, every
clutching was different.
Taking a seat, her mind slipped back to that day.
~*~
**Now?** questioned Teseada, it was late in the day, and she was about
to go to bed. Half undressed, she tossed a robe over her night gown,
and then she snapped at a passing drudge to pass a message to J'nev to
leave the Weyr now.
Onnyth meanwhile, sped to the feeding pens, and was busily engaged in
stalking her prey, although her noisy call had spooked them, and
probably half the Weyr too.
**Blood,** Teseada told the gold. **Only blood, if you want to fly
well tonight.**
N'call responded to the sudden spike by bolting upright in bed
himself. He couldn't quite believe it and put a hand out to Ninaine,
but she seemed sound a sleep. So he quietly as possible pulled on his
trousers and a robe. Thrusting his feet into slippers he pelted down
the stairs and toward the pens. It had been sunny today but it was
still freezing outside and he stomped and blew on his hands for warmth
as Haloth watched Onnyth possessively.
}:Onnyth goes to the feeding pen!:{ Iberath said to T'shi.
**So late?** The brownrider wondered as he sat straight up, reaching
out for his clothes. **You go, I walk,** he sent back, feeling how
impatient the brown was. The jog down the corridor passageway and to
the pens would do him good, given the chill. He didn't expect to win
Onnyth's flight, but there would always be waiting flight moths to
burn his need out with...
Another brownrider was having a different reaction to his dragon's
desire. Z'then covered his face with his hands and groaned when the
spike of lust hit him. **No, nono,** he thought. He saw Teseada every
day in the wing. How could Juvath chase her? He had to work with her
every day! But Juvath had never caught and was young... **there's no
way he'd win...** he hoped.
Juvath had chased two greens, and now he wanted to add chasing a gold
to his list. That his rider was inexperienced, and did not care for
the thought of the flight, troubled him little. A queen was calling,
and he burned with the need to answer. He was young, but he was
determined and he did see Onnyth daily, fly beside her. Perhaps that
would sway the queen his way.
He'd always managed to keep Aznith away from goldflights, but this
time, the brown would not be denied. Ma'din joined the circle of
waiting riders with a taut look on his face, eyeing Teseada with
growing lust mingled with a bit of frustration. He wanted no part of
the clutching process and he never had. He ran a hand through his
hair and faced her, eyes flicking over her as Aznith's desires slowly
superseded his own.
With a cry, a final unfortunate herdbeast's neck was snapped, the
blood drained and Onnyth took to the skies. }:Prove your worthiness,:{
she called even as the males began to catch up.
Kenirath had caught a gold not long ago in young Lissath, and he was
quite ready to win another. There was no hesitation on D'kere's part
either, he always supported Kenirath one hundred percent in a chase,
giving Kenirath the extra confidence he needed as he soared after
Onnyth's glowing form.
}:I will prove my worthiness.:{ Arinoth promised the lovely queen,
having eyed her for days as she slowly began to glow, ripening until
it was her moment to shine.
Iberath was quick on the wing after her. He was burning with hot
desire to catch this gold, this shining queen. He was strong and
experienced, more so than some of these weaklings. }:I will show you a
good flight,:{ he promised as he chased after her.
Juvath was late to jump after her, being still inexperienced with
this. He tried arrowing for her, but found he couldn't quite maneuver
well through the other dragons in the chasing pack.
Onnyth turned her head to stare at the chasers. Were any of them
worthy of her? They would have to prove it. Despite the cold, she
found some warmer air, and proceeded to start a climb up and out in
the direction of Opal cove.
Dark brown Torerath followed strongly behind her. His rider among
those gathering around her rider.
Arinoth shouldered a smaller brown out of his way as he strove to get
to the front of the pack where he could be noticed by Onnyth.
}:Beautiful Onnyth,:{ Kenirath crooned toward the gold, making sure to
use his size to block some of the other males from getting too close
to the front of the pack.
But for the moment, flying was all Onnyth needed to do, and fly she
did. }:Try hard, you'll need to,:{ she called.
Haloth swerved for position and outpaced a flagging brown to get
closer. He knew this gold and wanted her with a fierce fire.
Aznith stretched his brown wings, his whirling eyes intense on the
prize in front of him. He jostled past two browns, nearly foiling his
wings with their's, but managed to break free and not loose too much
space between he and Onnyth. As Kenirath blocked him, he folded his
wings, dipping low to swing under him, then around. }: They aren't
worthy of you, my Queen. We can fall far together. :{
Juvath was young and his wings ached too much to continue the chase,
he no match in stamina for the gold. On the ground, Z'then stumbled
away from the group, running back towards his weyr.
Iberath was tiring but determined. He continued to follow after
Onnyth, but he got fouled by Kenirath's block and hissed in
frustration as he tried to evade the bronze.
But there was one, one that caught the eye of the gold. He was
different, and the one that wanted to be noticed. Maneuvering her self
so she could be free for him, she called, }:Arinoth, make me yours
tonight!:{
~*~
}:Onnyth says that we may go to the Sands, she is clutching.:{ Arinoth
reported to K'yne, who dropped what he was doing to head that way
immediately. This was the first time that the brown had ever gotten
lucky enough to catch a gold, and K'yne was excited about the prospect
of being there to see a gold clutch. }:Lucky? There was nothing lucky
about it. It was all skill.:{ Arinoth said, affronted.
**My apologies, King of the Skies.** K'yne said with humor as his long
legs carried him inside the cavern, and down to where he could see
Teseada seated.
"Teseada," he kissed her cheek in greeting before settling himself beside
her.
"K'yne," she said with a smile. "That fuss pot of mine is just about
ready to start showing off for us."
"I'm sure she will, I can't wait."
With those words, Onnyth began to make a hollow, and the first egg
soon filled it. More eggs followed until there were a total of twenty
eight on the sands. "Oh, you beautiful girl," she turned to K'yne.
"Thanks to you and Arinoth as well."
