Lanniya

Lanniya waited impatiently while her parents sat together, hands
joined between their laps. Both bore expressions of hope and
excitement, tempered by worry. Lanniya was just nervous. Would Pierka
remember them? Would they be enough to trigger some memory of their
family? What it Pierka suddenly remembered everything?

She jumped out of her chair and peeked outside again. They were
supposed to be on their way. "Lanniya, " Her grandmother chided
gently, "they'll be here soon. It'll be alright." Despite her words,
her grandmother bustled about the small kitchen area, finishing the
touches on her grain muffins.

When they emerged from /between/ Pierka took a deep breath and
adjusted Kazom's bindings. He wasn't happy at all but at least he
calmed quickly when they were through. She nodded to Z'ku and then
urged Liddith to follow the big bronze down into the Weyrbowl.

**Please tell Anaeryth's we are here.**

Xemroth backwinged to land. Z'ku slid off and went to help Pierka with Kazom.

She handed their son down and then slid to the ground herself. She
smiled up at Z'ku. "I never believed a day like this would come. To
think they found their way back after all these turns."

"They're here!" Lanniya cried out, her eyes gleaming.

Before she could even exit the door, her parents had made it first,
running towards the Weyr's bowl. The memory of their eldest daughter,
floundering in the water, had been overwhelming and they were
desperate to make sure, memories or not, that she was alive and
healthy. They burst out, Kandreya's skirts held high to her knees and
Pierlin's long legs leaving the rest of the family behind. The golden
head of Pierka, so like Pierlin's was easy to spot and they had little
thought to the man standing beside her; their gaze was sharply
focused. "Pierkanya!"

Pierlin didn't even wait, he couldn't. The moment he reached Pierka,
he swooped her up in his arms, holding her close. "You're safe. Thank
Faranth, you're safe. My girl. My precious girl. I'm so sorry." His
voice cracked with tears he was trying not to shed. "I'm so sorry I
couldn't get to you. I tried. I tried!"

Z'ku's heart swelled as he watched the reunion. Whether Pierka
remembered them or not, her parents clearly remembered her. But his
mind was still turning about their miraculous return. Lanniya
disappeared for days, without telling anyone, and came back with her
parents. So soon after the River Bluff territory had suffered a large
hurricane, which must have churned up memories of the storm that
Pierka had barely survived and she and Lanninya's parents --
apparently -- had not.

Before she could even think she was enveloped in a huge hug. All she
could think was that he smelled right and sounded familiar. Her arms
wrapped around him and she hugged him back hard. A deep breath later
his words registered and she looked up at his face. It would be fair
to say she tried hard but she didn't recognize him. But back again to
the smell of him that made her feel warm happy and safe.

"Are you... my da?" Her voice was small and hopeful.

A kiss was pressed to her brow and his arms tightened. "I'm your Da.
I've always been your Da." Tears began to leak down his cheeks as he
Pierlin cupped hers to look down at her face.

Whatever he was going to say was stilled as Kandreya reached them and
clasped Pierka in an embrace of her own. She wasn't able to say more
than Pierka's name as she kissed her daughter's cheek and hair,
holding her close. Lanniya approached, her eyes watering she watched
her parents surround and embrace her sister. Her eyes went to Z'ku and
she wiped at her tears, but wasn't able to still them.

"You didn't die," she said wonderingly. "They told me you'd died." Her
eyes filled with tears she couldn't help as she hugged both of them
hard. Again she couldn't say she remembered anything of them other
then their smell.

Until suddenly, she did...

"Momma," she cried and her head whipped back and forth between the two
of them. She laughed and wipped around to Z'ku. "I remember," she told
him with a teary and surprised grin.

"Momma, daddy, this is Z'ku and this is your grandson," she lifted the
baby from his arms and put him into her mothers. "This is Kazom." The
little guy was confused by all the commotion and began to fret and
reach for his mother so she took him back and shushed him gently.
"It's okay honey shush, mommy is just very very happy."

Z'ku's eyes filled and then he, too was crying. He put an arm around
Pierka, kissed her temple. "That's wonderful." He couldn't find the
words to express how happy he was for his weyrmate. "That's so
wonderful."

Lanniya heard Pierka's exclamation and hurried forward. "Pierka?" Her
eyes gleamed with hope and she reached out a hand to her sister. "You
do? What do you remember?" Her eyes spilled over again. "Do you...do
you remember me?" She was almost afraid that she would hear Pierka
tell her that she only remembered her parents, if she remembered them
at all.

Pierka experienced a moment of almost vertigo, she did remember
Lanniya from now but then there was this other little Lanniya. "You
grew," she grinned.

Z'ku felt lucky to be there, to watch Pierka's fondest wish come true.
Not only did she have her parents back but she remembered them. She
remembered _all_ of them. He couldn't stop grinning.

Lanniya's lower lip trembled and her eyes flooded with happy tears.
She flung herself at Pierka and clasped her in a tight embrace, trying
not to squish Kazom. It had been worth everything. No matter what
anyone said, all the danger, it had been worth it for this moment.

Pierlin wiped his eyes, letting the sister reunite, but turned his
attention to the young man that stood by Pierka's side. He studied him
for a moment, taking in his knots and how he interacted with Pierka
and the baby. It was hard for him to come to grips that his eldest was
now a mother himself, despite what Lanniya had told him about Z'ku and
the baby. He would, however, have to make the effort. He thrust out a
hand towards Z'ku."I'm Pierklin. Pierkanya's father."

Kandreya embraced both of her girls, kissing their cheeks and finally
looked down at Kazom with wide eyes. "Your baby. My baby had a
baby..." She bent to brush her lips over Kazom's brow than hugged
Pierka to her, unable to speak more.
