Restoring the Hall

Writers: Heather
Date Posted: 1st July 2017

Characters: Endarin
Description: Endarin reflects on the progress made at the Dolphin Hall.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 13, day 1 of Turn 8

Endarin surveyed the progress on the Dolphin Hall, standing back some distance on the beach so he could take it all in. When the Dolphin Hall had caught fire he'd had the sinking feeling that there would be no saving it. Thanks to the quick response of his dolphineers, however, most of the damage had been contained to the Main Hall building, leaving the second part, which housed most of the residents, untouched, except for some smoke damage.

While clean-up and reconstruction went on, the dolphineer offices had been moved to empty rooms in the residence building. It was a minor inconvenience. The front face of the Dolphin Hall was still black, but crews were working on renewing the stone to its original state.

There was still the question of how the fire got started, but Endarin doubted foul play. As far as he knew, there were no enemies of the Dolphin Hall. If he had to bet, he would wager some young brats playing with fire had started it. Not that it was excusable, but he couldn't very well interrogate the Hall's children.

No, he sighed, they would just be thankful no one died and that everything that had been damaged was replaceable.

Endarin's attention was caught by a runner coming his way. The young man didn't even break a sweat as he loped up the incline where the Hallmaster stood.

"For you, Hallmaster."

"Thank you," Endarin reached into the pouch attached to his belt and placed a few pieces of coin into the runner's hand as a tip.

Opening the letter, a pleased smile curved the dolphineer's face. They had acquired the shipment of paving stones to lay in front of the Dolphin Hall. He knew his Headwoman should be pleased that less sand would be trafficked into the Main Hall now.

When the Hall was ready to reopen the Dolphin Cove Weyrleaders would be the first on his invitation list. He knew that since the Hall was beholden to Dolphin Cove that helping them had been the Weyrleaders' duty, but they had been extremely helpful in aiding the dolphineers in getting materials needed to rebuild.

"At least we didn't have to relocate like the harpers." He murmured to himself.

Well, he'd been out here brooding long enough, Endarin decided as he strolled back down toward the Dolphin Hall. Out at the pier he could see a class of apprentices working with dolphiners under the tutelage of some senior journeymen.

Along the shoreline some of the Hall's female staff walked with a few of the hallbrats who were running about collecting seashells.

Yes, everything seemed right and in place at the Dolphin Hall, and once the rebuild was finished, they would get back to work with no distractions.
