Stepping in a Big Pile of Wherry Dung

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 25th July 2017

Characters: J'nev, Uetia
Description: J'nev tries to make a new friend, in his own suave and charming way...
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 4 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentions: K'mai

You must be new here," J'nev said with a smile at the woman sitting across from him sipping her morning klah. "Queen's Wing?"

"Yes, until this heals," she pointed her arm in a sling. "I*m Uetia, green Sirjath's rider, from River Bluff."

"I thought maybe you came from there. I'm so sorry, for your injury and everything else." This time, at least, he was pretty sure she had been injured in the earthquake. The last time he talked to someone from there, he hadn't realized it, and ended up feeling pretty embarrassed. "But I hope Dragonfalls is treating you kindly."

"The weather is awful and there's no beach," Uetia replied grumpily. She was used to tropical climate and compared to River Bluff, Dragonsfall had much cooler climate.

"Well, now, that's honest. Give us a chance at least," he said, his smile a little more fixed. "Thank the Egg we have dragons and can go to warmer climates when we like, right?"

"Yes, normally, unless you have broken shoulder. Then you're stuck and bad tempered," Uetia replied. At least she knew she was terrible company right now.

"Yeah, but it will heal." J'nev was starting to look around and all the other places he _could_ have sat down at.

"Can't heal faster enough," Uetia replied. She was normally active and independent woman so having only one arm at her use was frustrating.

"Yeah, well, at least the people here are nice, right?" Shards, there was Heltha... And her green would be rising soon, too! He could have sat next to her!

"Yes, they are that," Uetia couldn't find any fault there, besides many of her friends had come to Dragonsfall too and Sabia was comfortable with her fostermother.

Well, finally something positive to say. "I'm glad people are treating you right. And your family? Did they come with you?" Basically J'nev was trying to figure out if it was even worth continuing this conversation with this greenrider.

"I brought my daughter with me," Uetia replied. "Rest of them are living in Far Island or around the southern Pern," she continued.

A daughter, eh? Well, that didn't necessarily mean she was off limits. After all, Aileyan had a son. Now, how to put this without seeming obvious... "It's just you and your daughter... Her father's at Far Island then?"

"No, he's dead," Uetia replied bluntly. It was easier to say that way than try to explain the uncertainity of her father's identity. Besides, the older Sabia got, the more Uetia thought she saw Sabonus in her. Still, K'mai was wonderful surrogate-father.

"Of course he is," he muttered under his breath. He just never could step lightly about these things without stepping in a big pile of wherry dung. "In the quake?"

"No, much earlier," Uetia replied with one shouldered shrug. There was things she didn't want to elaborate with people she had used met. She still missed him.

"Oh well..." At least that meant she was probably over it by now. "So you are a greenrider? What's your lifemate's name?"

"Sirjath," Uetia replied with annoyed -I told it once already - tone.

He ignored her tone, trying to commit that name to memory. **Remember that name, Ankioth,** he told his dragon. **It might prove useful in the future.**

}:Why?:{ was the confused reply.

J'nev tried not to roll his eyes. **Because she's going to Rise eventually!**

}:But all greens do that...:{

His rider took a deep breath and turned back to the greenrider. "Sorry, a little disagreement with Ankioth. That's my lifemate. Bronze Ankioth." He made sure to emphasize the 'bronze' part.

Uetia caught the emphasize and nearly laughed out. There were nice bronzeriders and there were obnoxious bronzeriders. He apparently fell into later category. At least he was cheering her up with his antics. "Well met, _bronze_rider," she smirked.

"And well met to you too, _green_rider," he grinned, thinking she was impressed with the color he rode. **Oh yeah, she's into me.** She wasn't such a friendly talker, but what did that matter in a Flight room? "So how do you like your new weyr? It's on, what, the Upper Cliffs?"

"Yes, it think it's there, I'm not sure of the local terminology yet. It's nice enough, cozy and has a good view, which still is missing the ocean," Uetia replied.

**And back to the complaining...** Still, angry sex could be fun sex. "You know, you probably don't notice it's missing in the bedroom..."

Uetia did roll her eyes this time. "Do you always come after everything that moves and looks vaguedly feminine? You should meet my cousin, you could compare your dragon's colours and have a pissing contest."

"Not everything," J'nev assured her, thinking she was just trying to tease a little. "I assure you, your daughter's safe with me." As soon as the words left his mouth, he realized that was not the image he wanted her to have. "Wait. That was supposed to be a joke. I think that didn't come out right..."

Uetia gave him a fearsome scowl. She was large, muscular woman and could look rather intimating. "It was not one bit funny. One more like that and your flying without your dragon, _bronze_rider." She was angry and showed it.

J'nev recoiled a little nervously. "I know! I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. It just came out. I was just trying to make a joke! Of course, I would never want to have sex with your daughter! I don't even know her!"

"She's not even a Turn old, you wherry dung!" Uetia screeched. She never held anything back and had no restrain showing her emotions.

The bronzerider looked up at her helplessly. Shards that woman was scary! "Look, I said I was sorry!"

"Get lost," Uetia said with disgusted expression.

"I was done anyway," he muttered, but he obeyed, as quickly as his pride would allow.

Uetia huffed. "What a jerk. Where are the nice blueriders when you need a one?"

A hand came up in a next table. "I'm nice!"
