Lady Yanley

Yanley

Erivana walked down the corridors of Dragonsfall Weyr, looking at all
of the walls and trying to memorize the way. They'd been given
instructions on how to get to the Headwomans office, and she chanted
them in her head as she walked. Her mother seemed to glide through the
halls, self-assured and unruffled by what they'd been through. She was
jealous of that poise and breathed in and out deeply, trying to
emulate it.

Once she got to the right area, she looked at her mother. They'd
already talked about not living together at Dragonsfall but now she
was nervous. "Do you want to go first?"

"Seating you in the barracks should be easier than finding me a weyr,"
Eridhiya told her daughter. "You can talk to her on your own if you'd
prefer."

Erivana straightened her shoulders and knocked at the Headwoman's
door. She could do this.

"Enter!" Yanley called. The incoming trafic from River Bluff Weyr was
keeping her busy and pretty much tied to her desk. At least people
knew where to find her when she was in her office.

Erivana pushed the door aside and gave the headwoman her brightest
smile. "Headwoman, good day. I'm Erivana of River Bluff, Candidate,"
she said. In one hand she held her transfer papers, ready to hand them
over.

"Welcome to the Dragonsfall then, Erivana," Yanley replied with her
customary warm smile. They were getting their share of people,
dragonriders, crafters, lower cavern workers and candidates.

"Thank you, Headwoman. I'm looking forward to learning about the
Weyr," she said. "I was wondering if there's space in the Candidate
barracks still?"

"There is, although it's getting crowded. We added bunks. Not much
personal space, I'm afraid. They are even taking a break from Search
riding. The girl's side isn't quite as bad as the boy's side," Yanley
replied.

"I guess between Search and River Bluff, you got a lot of us?" Crowded
was something she could manage. It would be less embarrassing than
living with her mother.

"Yes," Yanley confirmed. "While you're beeing split to several Weyrs,
well, we do have Eggs coming up, so we got a fair share," she didn't
say that River Bluff had also had Eggs on the Sands, thats why there
was so many candidates to relocate. She felt sad when she thought of
Lenala, having met the River Bluff goldrider few times during social
occasions.

"I'm looking forward to the Hatching," Erivana admitted. It would be
something good in her life, to take away from all that was lost.

"What do I need to provide you to get settled?" she asked.

"I need check your transferr papers first, do they have all the
information we need," Yanley replied.

Erivana handed over her paperwork quietly.

"So, you're weyrbred," Yanley noted after reading the hide. "I doesn't
say what do you, do you have a craft or preferred chores?"

"I'm an apprentice dragonhealer, but I can't advance until I Impress,"
Erivana said.

"Alright," Yanley wrote it down. "I try get you assigned to the
dragoninfirmary. However, for first sevenday or two you just have to
settle for the more generic duties, untill I get all of you settled
down and organized."

"That will be fine," she said. "Would it be easier if I spoke with the
Weyrdragonhealer as well?"

"It won't hurt. I'm sure he appreaciates willing help. Our
Weyrdragonhealer is W'ser, rider of brown Branth," Yanley replied.

"I'll seek him out," she promised.

"Meanwhile, you can report to E'naer about your candidate classes,
he's decide whether or not you need to take those," Yanley said.

"E'naer, yes ma'a," Erivana said to the Headwoman. "So talk to E'naer,
talk to W'ser, move into the barracks..." She paused. "Are there going
to be assigned bunks or do I just pick something?"

"One of my assistants, Gathryn, handles the bunk placements, she's set
up a desk for herself at the candidate barracks. She can also help you
if you need something like clothes or personal hygiene items," Yanley
replied.

That was three people to speak to, and one right where she was going.
She could handle that. "Yes ma'am, I'll go speak with her. Thank you
so much," she said.

"You're welcome. I hope you settle in and like it here," Yanley replied.

"I'll do my best," Erivana said.
