Uegot carried the large crates that held their property to their new appartment at the Hold easily. The only things he was going to need help with was the larger furniture and only because they were too big to lift by one man. The seacrafter had always been stronger than most. He left Nerylyn to herd their children, the move was making them restless, so she took them out to burn some energy.
Kiomo rounded the corner and noticed a rather imposing figure looming up ahead. **Now is that a man, or a mountain?** he thought to himself with a slight shake to his head. Noticing the man stop, he decided to offer his assistance. "Do you need me to get the door for you there?"
"If you could keep the door open, if I don't have to put this down, please?" Uegot asked.
"Yeah, sure." Kiomo ducked a bit to get under the crate and reach for the handle. "Are you sure you've got that? It looks really heavy."
"Thanks, i'm fine," Uegot replied.
"You're new to the Hold?" Kiomo asked curiously.
"Yeah, just moving in," Uegot grunted.
"Were you displaced?" There seemed to be a lot of movement of people after the quake and tsunami.
"Yes, from the seacraft hall," Uegot replied. He shook his head. "First there was hurricane earlier this Turn, now this. It's not safe for the family."
Kiomo was a little surprised. He would have thought a seacrafter was hard to shake. But then again, families seemed to make men do strange things. "You're bringing a family then?"
"Yes, it's better for them to live here," Uegot replied. Besides safer, there was harpers to keep regular classes and healers on permanent basis.
"Are you a sailor or will be working on land?" Kiomo asked curiously.
"Lately, I've been teaching apprentices," Uegot replied.
That didn't sound like a very stable livelihood at the moment. "There's talk that the Hall is lost. What will you do if that happens?"
"I don't know yet. Find a new job, take a ship position," Uegot shrugged his wide shoulders. He did have plenty of options open before him.
The Holder hadn't had much chance to interact with any seacrafters. This man might be useful, and good at explaining things that he still needed to learn. "I'm Kiomo, by the way," he said, holding out his hand in greeting.
"I'm Uegot, journeyman seacrafter," Uegot replied. He looked the offered hand and the crate he was _still_ carrying. There was no way he could take one hand off from it to shake hands. It was too large to hold with one hand.
"Oh, right," Kiomo said, dropping the hand. "Need a hand with that?"
"I just need to get it into our apartment," Uegot replied. Standing around and talking didn't help to progress his journey.
"Right. Sorry about that!" Kiomo pulled the door open a little wider. "There you go."
"Thanks. Was nice chatting with you," Uegot replied with grateful nod.
"Yeah, you too." Kiomo was about to let go of the door, but hesitated. "Hey, do you ever go down to the tavern?"
"Occasionally," Uegot replied. He was seacrafter after all and liked a pint or two as well as any man.
"Can I buy you a pint this evening? I'm Lord Bryvin's assistant, but I'm still new here. There's still a lot I don't know." And one thing Kiomo understood, knowledge was power, and contacts were currency. "I'd like to hear more about what's happening down at the Seacraft Hall."
"Okay, after moving all in, I'll probably need that pint," Uegot replied with a friendly grin.
"Great! After the evening meal then?"
"I'll see you there," Uegot promised.
