Birthday dinner

Writers: Len, Paula
Date Posted: 26th March 2018

Characters: E'naer, G'wen
Description: G'wen has surprise for E'naer.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 14 of Turn 9
Notes: D'kere, Saibra(not by name)

"Hello, G'wen, I'm home! Are you here?" E'naer entered their weyr.
According to Eillispeth, Neath was on the ledge with her.

"Yes, just getting out of the bath!" G'wen called out. Dusk swooped
out from that direction, daintily landing on the table by E'naer and
arching his neck for a pat from his owner's weyrmate.

E'naer gave Dusk a pat and then Feral invited him for a play.
"Alright. Have you eaten yet? We could go to dining cavern or order
something here," he suggested.

"I've already ordered," G'wen said as he walked out of the bathroom,
ruffling his still wet hair. He stood on tip-toe to give E'naer a kiss
on the lips. "Catrien was up north for a gather and brought this back
for us, so I thought we'd have a nice romantic dinner." He gave E'naer
a cheeky grin and waved his hand towards the very expensive bottle of
Benden white on the table.

"How wolderful surprise, darling!" E'naer was delighted by
such a thoughtful surprise. He had completely forgotten what day it was.

"And the cook was making your favorite meal, plus fresh bubbly pies,
so I ordered the lot." There was a knock on the door. "And there it
all is." He gave E'naer a little tickle as he walked by to let the
lower cavern worker in to place their dinner on the table. "Why don't
you take your work clothes off and relax? I'll serve you."

"Now I feel like a Lord Holder," E'naer said. "I'll take a quick wash
and change," he continued and hurried to the bathroom.

"As you should!" G'wen called to him, staying out to arrange the food
onto the table. He kept the pies under their covers, to keep them as
warm as he could. As E'naer was busy, he uncorked the wine and pored
them a glass each.

E'naer quickly washed all the critical parts and changed into a clean
tunic and soft cotton trousers. Then he rejoined G'wen.

"It's your birthday silly!"

"You're right, so it is. Being busy with the new weyrling class, I've
almost forgotten it," E'naer replied and took a seat. "So, how was
your day?"

"Oh, Neath slobbered all over all the queens today, as usual." He
grinned and shook his had at his green's fascination with anything
gold coloured. "I'd love to get her into a higher up wing, wingthird
Jaylene was talking to me about it the other day. She was saying with
Neath's size, she's wasted at such a low wing and she thinks Neath
could even fly an entire Fall even up there." G'wen flushed with pride
for his huge green. "But you know Neath, she'd_hate_to leave the
queen's wing. I'm not sure you, me, Elli, Dusk and Feral would be able
to put up with her pouting." He rolled his large brown eyes
expressively.

"She is big and strong, which would be benefit on higher altitude
wings," E'naer said. "On the other hand, queen's wing needs able
bodied dragons too, to compensate for those injured ones. How strong
is her instinct to flame Thread? Is it stronger than her fascination
with the golds? It took Eilli a some time to adjust to a fact we
wouldn't be
actively fighting Thread when we started working with Weyrlings."

G'wen thought about it whilst taking a sip of wine. "I'd say it's
about equal. She loves the golds and she loves fighting thread."

"So you might as well toss up a mark and see which way it lands to
decide," E'naer grinned. "She's dragon, they don't have long memories,
she'll eventually adjust to any change."

"G'wen rolled his eyes at E'naer and began putting food on his plate.
"Tell that one to Neath. She claims she can still remember when I was
so sick from the threadscore."

"I doupt it. You remember it and she picks it up thru the bond,"
E*naer replied with a shrug. He passed one of the serving trays after
having filled his own plate.

}:I_do_remember it!:{ From the ledge, Neath grumbled.

G'wen laughed and told E'naer what she said, adding in a low voice,
"Keep in mind, this is the dragon who forgot she had eaten yesterday
and demanded she feed today."

"So she was hungry," E'naer replied with a grin. "She's a growing girl."

"If she gets any bigger, she's going to rival Elleth in size." G'wen
sniffed, missing his best friend. To change the subject, he asked, "So
how are the new weyrlings?"

"Interesting bunch with varied personalities. No terrible
troublemakers or pranksters," E'naer replied. "So far no mishaps or
serious injuries."

"Good." Not that there were ever any serious injuries, not with such a
good Weyrlingmaster group on hand. "There's a gather up at Igan soon,
do you want to go?"

"I would love to go," E'naer replied. "But if I can depends how my
work shifts turn out," he continued. "Since the Weyrwoman recruited
D'kere, we're bit short handed." Nothing they couldn't handle but it
did eat away his free time.

G'wen inwardly sighed. "At least we have our dinnertime together, eh?"
