Description: Ar'lis comes to see Syntara after her she'd been 'scored
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 11 of Turn 3

Syntara's eyes rolled gently open as a knock on her door pulled her from sleep. She rolled over in her bed and ran a hand through her hair as best she could - even if it was only a drudge delivering her meals, that was no excuse to look like the walking dead.

"Come in." She called with sleep still heavy in her voice.

After a brief moment, the door opened, then closed with a quiet click.
Slowly Ar'lis approached the bed, his eyes traveling down her body that was hidden beneath the sheets. "You didn't tell me you got 'scored, Syntara," he said quietly, his expression concerned.

Syntara sighed and rolled her eyes shut. "Because it's not a big deal, Ar'lis..." Surely this was not going to be good for her recovery.

He frowned, but the look in his eyes was still concerned. "Zylarth says you were laid up for nearly a sevenday. Faylith told him."

** Faylith! ** Lifemates could be so sly sometimes!

}: You were injured and you missed him, I could tell... :{ "Well then there you have it.." She said matter of factly.

Crossing his arms over his chest, he gazed down at her, wishing she would sharding open her eyes and _look_ at him. He just didn't understand it... "If you want me to leave so you can rest, Syntara, you can just tell me. There's no need for the silent treatment."

She reopened her eyes and looked at him for the first time in what she was sure had been sevendays. "I don't want you to leave. I'm just... on edge at the moment."

"Is there anything I can do?"

The greenrider smiled lightly. "Can you heal my 'score and get me back out flying again?"

"Unfortunately, love, my fingers have lost their special healing powers." He rubbed his thumb and forefinger together for emphasis as he gave her a small grin. Ar'lis moved until he could sit on the edge of the bed, careful not to bump her. "Otherwise I would."

"Somehow I doubt that very highly. If I recall correctly," she gave him what she hoped was a saucy look, "those hands were magic."

His grin grew. "They still are."

She slid over in bed to make room for the bronzerider. "Maybe if you just stayed with me here for a while instead. I'm not sure Gaiya would like you massaging other women all that much." There was a sad sort of resignation in her tone.

His eyes flickered as he watched her. Gently he reclined to his side, propping himself up on a forearm to look down at her. "This is a Weyr, love. And Gaiya and I...we're not weyrmated."

Syntara shrugged and, pulling him down flat, made herself comfortable against his chest even though she knew it'd only make her miss him more when he left again.

It seemed so unlike her...where were her teasing replies, her haughty answers? He frowned a little as he curled an arm around her, his other hand moving to stroked her hair from her brow. Part of it must be the medication. Shards, that stuff was scorching powerful.

The greenrider lay quiet for a few minutes, unsure of what to say next.
What was there to say? Ar'lis was in love with someone else and only with her now out of pity - and she certainly didn't need that. Not from him. She made a promise to herself in the silence that she'd never let this happen again. It was too painful. First with U'kaiah and now Ar'lis...

"Despite everything," the bronzerider finally murmured softly, his lips just brushing her ear, "are you all right, sweetheart?" And he didn't just mean her Threadscore.

"I'm not sweetheart and I'm just fine." She was more upset then she thought she was. Having Ar'lis here, trying to make things work, was more upsetting then being alone.

The bronzerider fell silent, but he continued to lightly run his fingers against her hair. It was getting longer, he noticed absently.

Syntara was annoyed by the silence. Something about it made her uncomfortable. The pair of them were no longer intimate enough to share silences like these comfortably. There was too much they weren't saying to each other.

"You sure?" he asked quietly, trying again.

Syntara sat back up. "I don't want to _talk_ about anything. If I say that I'm fine that's the end of it and I don't need you to try and be all comforting about it." **Especially when you're part of the problem in the first place.** She was was starting to upset herself. "I think it might be time for you to go." She added the last bit rather softly without looking at Ar'lis.

He blinked, shocked by the sudden shift and swing of her mood. Then the shock turned into bitter confusion at the look on her face. But she wouldn't _look_ at him. "Fine," he growled softly, his pride stinging as he rose from the bed. Women! He would never understand them. Ever. And she sharding seemed perfectly willing to accept the comfort he offered her just minutes before! He wish she would just sharding make up her mind about what she wanted from him.

Syntara watched his image blurred by tears slip out of her weyr. She laid back down and let herself cry for only a moment or two for everythingshe'd lost.
