Description: J'nne and his family and important friend have a drink to celebrate his joining Cyan Wing
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 11 of Turn 9
Jaylene finished setting up the bottle of fizz and arranging the
glasses. Ignoring the amused look in her brother J'nne's face, she
turned to Uetia and said over the loud dim of the Dinning Hall, "It's
not every day your baby brother and his bronze get assigned to their
new wing! Beer's not going to cut it."
"I have something to go with that," Uetia placed a tray to the table.
"You little people need food with your booze." Although J'nne was as
tall as she was and Jaylene wasn't that much shorter either.
"Oh please, girl," J'zen--who was the shortest one at the
table--snorted and took a meatroll before she had even finished
placing the tray on the table. "It's not my fault I'm surrounded by
bloody giants."
Uetia grinned at him. "So, party-boy, how it feels to be a fully
trained wingrider now?" she turned her attention to J'nne.
"Just...just...weird." J'nne waved his hands at his laughing siblings.
"I was happy being a harper, but after what happened at River's
Buff..." He shrugged his shoulders.
"I know what you mean," Jaylene said, trailing a finger over the wet
mark her glass had made on the table.
"Yeah," Uetia said falling quiet for a moment. She had been out of
action for two months because of broken shoulder herself, and she
counted herself being lucky. She shook the gloomy thoughts away and
nudged Jaylene. "Are we going to have a party or memorial?"
"Oh, a party please!" J'nne teased, poring more wine into Jaylene's
glass. He then noticed Uetia's was getting low as well. "They don't
make these glasses like they used to, eh? I swear they all have a hole
in the bottom."
"Than there would be puddle on the table. No, it's your stomach that's
bottomless," Uetia said.
"Not just my stomach m'dear." J'nne grinned and pointed to the fact
that Uetia's glass had been mostly empty before he had refilled it.
"Right, that's the seacrafter blood. Nobody drinks like a sailor,
well, maybe except dragonriders."
J'nne looked at his siblings and grinned. "No one told her about
drinking and harper blood then, did they?"
"Nope." Jaylene downed her glass in two swallows. "More please."
"Harpers can't possibly match seacrafters, not sure of dragonriding
harpers, though," Uetia retorted back.
"This is beginning to sound like a bet that'll only result in sore
heads tomorrow," said J'zen, making a point of sipping his wine with
the respect the vintner who made it deserved.
"Ah no..." J'nne put his wine down and smacked his forehead. "It's
just occurred to me that my sister is my boss."
Uetia chuckled. "Good luck with that."
"Thanks." J'nne's tone was woeful as Jaylene grinned and blew him a kiss.
"What d'you think I should inflict on him first, Uetia? That really
long sweep over the Western Barrier Range?" Jaylene gave her friend an
evil grin.
"That's always a good one, especially if it's cold or it snows. Also
watch duty," Uetia grinned wickedly.
"Brrr...watch duty in a bloody blizzard," J'zen said, shivering.
"That's what they bloody did to me last month, sent this poor tropical
greenrider out in a white-out blizzard to 'watch.' Watch what? I
couldn't see beyond my bloody nose!"
Uetia laughed. "Good thing wingthirds don't have to do watch duties,
right Jaylene?"
"Too right!" Jaylene laughed. "And I also expect no flirting between
wings during drills, you two." She waggled her finger at J'nne and
Uetia.
"Now, would we do that?" Uetia asked innocently.
"Not us," J'nne added. "We're respectable now, a bronze rider and a
wingthird. None of those old River Buff antics for us!" He made a show
of sipping his wine in perfect imitation of a fussy Holder.
"Riiight," Uetia said and seriously considered dumping something on
him. Just because.
J'nne knew what that ornery glint meant and kissed her quick before
she could get anymore ideas.
"Ugh...gross," J'zen muttered. "My sibling making out in front of me.
I think we're no longer wanted, m'dear," he added to his sister.
Uetia wrapped her arms around J'nne and just concentrated to kissing
him properly. She had missed it during his weyrlinghood.
"I think you're right, dear brother," Jaylene said with a laugh. "You
two need to get a room!"
