Enamra stepped into what would be her new home with hesitation. She
looked around and blinked. It was indeed very nice, but looked like it
could use some cleaning. She stepped away from the door, trying to
appear at least calm, but being alone with Thayde now made the large
room seem very, very small. "It's nice."

He glanced about his quarters, trying to see the space through her
eyes. Thayde had always been a tidy person, and there were a few
things here and there, seashells, sea glass, and knicknacks from his
travels, but he wouldn't say that his place looked like a home. "You
can change whatever you would like," he told her.

She glanced at him, shifting from foot to foot. She didn't know of she
felt entirely comfortable changing anything, especially when it was
all his. Instead, she just nodded silently, continuing top look
around. She rubbed her arms, eyes sliding to the obvious kitchen area
and sitting area. The two rooms were larger than her cothold had been.
"Can you show me where everything is?"

"Oh, right." He felt silly for not thinking of that first, but he felt
completely unsure of what to do with his wife now that they were in
his quarters. "Through here is my study," Thayde showed her to a small
room off of the main living quarters where his desk and books were
nestled. "And this is the necessary," he opened the door to a tiny
closet that held a wash basin, mirror, and latrine. There wasn't much
to see in any of those areas, so he took her to the only other room in
the suite- the bedroom. "And this is my, well... I guess now this is
our room," he amended, pushing the door open. The main feature of the
room was the four-poster bed, big enough for two. A trunk with a quilt
on top rested at the foot of the bed, and to either side there were
nightstands.

She followed him as she showed her where the separate areas were, then
paused at the door that opened last. **Our room. One bed.** She had
expected it, but seeing it was something else. Used to sleeping in a
narrow cot, the bed looked huge. Jylanya had said that she had sent
Enamra's things over, and she could see the small trunk of her meager
belongings near a wardrobe. She didn't have much, just a four plain
dresses, a couple of night shifts, two pairs of sturdy slippers, and a
few personal items like her combs. It didn't seem that she would take
up too much of his space. She didn't know what to really say next, so
she decided on something very simple. "It seems very cozy."

"It is," Thayde said, shoving his hands into his pockets. The weight
of the words "wedding night" were pressing heavily on him. He
certainly had no intentions of doing any sort of "traditional" wedding
night activities.

Unbeknownst to him, the same subject was weighting heavily on Enamra
as she looked at the bed. She took a breath, hugged herself, then
looked up at him before turning back to the bed. "I suppose you'll be
wanting to go to bed soon, since it's late."

The bed was the last place he wanted to be, Thayde thought. "I was
actually thinking of doing some reading in my study. Why don't you go
ahead and make yourself comfortable. I probably won't come to bed for
another candlemark or so."

She blinked, surprised, glancing at the bed. "Oh. Uhm... I suppose."
She frowned, not sure how to respond. She glanced at the bed, looked
down at her gown and flushed. "I need help with the gown. The laces."

"Oh, sure." Thayde stepped behind her and began pulling the laces of
the gown, which allowed the plackets to part, revealing her exposed
back, partially covered with the shift she wore underneath. As he
worked he purposefully ignored the smooth skin that his fingers
brushed through the thin fabric with their efforts to loosen all of
the laces. "I think that's it," he said when he reached the bottom.

She felt the brush of his fingers against her, even through the silky
shift that Jylanya had provided. Figuring that this was the time, and
remembering
what she had had to do for Doroon, she hesitated, swallowed hard, then
lifted her skirts. Moving quickly before panic set in, she laid over
the side of the bed and held completely still, offering herself to her
new husband, but hoping he would make it quick and it wouldn't hurt as
much as it had the first time.

Thayde's eyes widened and suddenly the room felt all too hot. Had the
collar of his shirt shrank? It must have because he was nearly
choking. Being Enamra's healer during her pregnancy, Thayde had seen
all parts of her body but never in such a display. Clenching and
unclenching his hands, and trying to avoid eye contact with the smooth
curves of her backside, Thayde reached out and lifted her skirts and
very gently pulled them back down to cover her. As soon as she was
covered he felt as though he could breathe again. "There's, uh, no
need for you to do that. I'm going to go to my study and read. If you
need anything just come get me." He left from the room before she
could turn around, to hopefully save her any embarrassment and to save
himself as well. It struck him as he retreated the way she had
basically offered herself to him. Was that how the father of her child
had done it, then? From what he'd heard Enamra say it was the one and
only experience she had with sex. It made him sad for her, that her
idea of sex was so crude, but she was fifteen, and he was in no mood
to try and tackle that issue tonight.

She was stunned as she felt her skirts lowered and held still as he
left the room. What? She felt a surge of relief as she relaxed,
thankful that she hadn't had to bear the pain of it, but also felt a
surprising sliver of hurt from the rejection. He had every right to
take her and consummate the marriage; why hadn't he? She thought men
wanted that.

She rose from her position, looking behind her at the closed door.
Completely confused, she stripped herself of her gown, hung it neatly
to return to Jylanya and decided to slide into the bed. It was more
comfortable than she had expected and the pillow soft. Her thoughts
troubled, and dealing with a very long day, it wasn't long before the
comfort lured her into sleep.
