Long Awaited News

Writers: AmajoS, Paula
Date Posted: 30th May 2019

Characters: Kefnek, Keayd
Description: Kefnek calls Keayd into his office to ask a question and give some long-awaited good news.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 10, day 27 of Turn 9
Notes: Mentioned: Capwick

Kefnek stopped the journeyman who had just dropped a stack of
work on his desk and then turned to leave with a raised eyebrow. The
young man shrugged sheepishly and said, "Sorry sir, the inventory
reports you asked for." Kefnek nodded in approval and let the man he
was trying out as his assistant continue on his way. He didn't think
he liked this one either. "Oh, Journeyman Keayd is outside for his
appointment, do you want me to let him in?"

"Yes, yes," Kefnek waved a 'get on with it' gesture at the young man
and sighed again. No. He didn't think this one was going to work out.

"Master Kefnek, you wanted to see me?" Keayd greeted when limped in to
office and gave respectful bow.

"Please, have a seat," he gestured toward the chair in front of the
desk. He waited until the younger man took a seat and then jumped
right in, "I've read through your file, the records of your training
and career thus far." He pulled a stack of notes, on both paper and
leather, in front of him.

"Yes?" Key tried very hard not to sound like an eager puppy waiting for treat.

"It seems to me that you are past due to walk the tables. I have notes
here from several Masters, including Capwick, and they are all
favorable. Is this something you want? I know some people don't give a
fig about advancement once they hit Journeyman."

"Senior Journeyman carries more responsibility as well as the right to
more marks for your wares," he cautioned.

"Yes, it's something I want very much, I've been working hard towards
it. I've got the project, has presented the results, it's been
approved...just things seem to get away. Hallmasters get sick or
something else intervenes," Keayd said with serious tone and then let
out a frustrated sigh.

Kefnek nodded in sympathy, "Yes, I can see that. But, if you feel like
you're ready, I think we should have the ceremony soon."

"Thank you, I would appreciate it greatly," Keayd replied. He did his
best to contain his excitement.

"Will having the table walking on the sixth of the new month work? Or
will you need more time to gather any family you want to be present?"

"My family lives at the main Hold or near it, so they can be here at
moments notice," Keayd replied. He could barely contain his
jubilation. Finally!

"Very well, I suggest you write to them and let them know that if they
want to see you walk the tables, they should make their way to the
Hall the evening of the sixth. There will be a celebration, of
course." There always was when someone walked the tables, even the
apprentices, though the party didn't last quite as long. "But since
the next day is a rest day, that shouldn't be a problem if your family
wants to stay over afterward."

"Thank you, Hallmaster, I'll do that straight away," Keayd replied. He
took few deep breaths to keep his jubilation in control. Yelling out
his happiness and dancing around in the Hallmaster's office was not
dignified behaviour expected from a journeyman.

Kefnek nodded in approval, "Good. Is there anything else you need
while you're here? You've been teaching, any complaints or comments on
your students?"

"There's couple of promising young minds that have caught my
attention," Keayd said. "There's the compulsory lazy slacker or two
and whole lot of averages."

"So the same as always then?" Kefnek allowed a small grin and nodded.
"Alright, if you don't have any other issues or concerns, you're
dismissed."

"Pretty much, yes," Key grinned. "No, I'm good. Thank you, Hallmaster."

"Very well then, Journeyman." Kefnek stood and offered his hand. "And
congratulations."
