"Hi, are you master Alixana? I thought I should introduce myself. I'm
E'naer, seniour journeyman dragonhealer and Weyrlingmaster's third."
"I am. Nice to meet you, Journeyman." Alixana looked over the young
man, taking his meaure in a glance, setting aside the reports she was
rewiewing.
"Welcome to the Dragons Fall Weyr," E'naer said.
"Thank you." She said. "Tell me, E'naer, would you be willing to take me on
a bit of a tour? And tell be about the status of the Dragon Infirmary?
Reports are all very well, but it's nice to hear a healer's own thoughts
too."
"Sure, I can do that," E'naer replied with a friendly grin.
"Excellent. Obviously, I've been here in the Infirmary," she said, "So shall
we start here, and work our way out? Perhaps as we go you can tell me about
the current patients to start." She set the dry and dull reports aside and
stood stiffly, all at once glad of the distraction that would get her out
and moving, instead of at a desk.
"Sure, as you wish," E'naer grinned and gestured her to follow him.
"Patientwise, we currently have a good situation. Only few patients: one
senior weyrling that got scored during the blooding, few wing-dragons
recovering and then we have couple permanent patients, dragons that have
been scored so badly they can't fly anymore."
"Unfortunate, but it does happen. How are their riders holding up?" Alixana
asked, letting the young man lead her through the halls.
"Each one on his or her own one. One is teaching weyrlings, other one
started to study healing... " E'naer said.
"As far as dragonhealer's go, we're bit stretched time to time. Most
of us do a two job like me."
"I doubt we'd ever have enough healers, even if every rider in the
Weyr was one. That's just a fact of life." His report matched what
she'd read.
"Yes, it is," E'naer agreed. "We have fine patch of weyrlings coming up.
Maybe you could give them a lesson or two? About dragonhealing?"
"Oh, very possibly. The do need to learn at least the basics. And perhaps
some preventative care."
E'naer nodded. "I usually cover those classes myself, but a visiting
teacher would bring some fresh ideas to it. Besides, they probably
rather bored to see my face by now."
"I'd be happy to help. Perhaps you could familiarize me with the
curriculum here at Dragonsfall, and we can work up a supplemental
lesson plan. And we can see if any of your weyrlings have the talent
for healing."
"Yes, that's a good idea," E'naer nodded. He opened a door. "This is our
store, it also has a bunk for those healers who have to stay here over
night. Or to worried riders who can't leave their life-mate."
"Very good. A well thought out provision, to be sure. We would just roll in
a spare cot if needed."
"Yes," E'naer agreed and continued showing her around.
"And how are your studies progressing, journeyman?"
The greenrider rolled his eyes. "Badly. They are in complete halt at the
moment," he confessed.
"Indeed? Why? If it's your own choice, fine. If not, though...." She let
that trail off. The woman would stand up to the Weyrleaders herself if she
had to in order to allow a student to continue studying. Healing was
important.
"The circumstances have been against it lately. First I was in infirmary for
few months, recovering from a thread score. Now I'm busy with the
weyrlings."
"True. Well. Perhaps we can work on setting up time here and there to
continue your studies, as your other duties allow, if you'd like."
"It's a worth a try," E'naer replied.
"Good." Alixana said with a nod.
E'naer continued with the tour.
