C'rin

C'rin

The screaming challenge of a green didn't even phase K'lvin as he kissed
Kylena on the head, hugged Kaliha to him and wished his daughter's a
good day with their foster mother. It was the sudden rush of emotion
from Xmrenth that made him pause and put his hand on the wall for
balance. He closed his eyes, looking through Xmrenth's heated gaze as it
zeroed in on the glowing, green hide of a very familiar green.

"Riveenata," he gasped.

The itch had been growing slowly for days. Savith had been mercurial.
Flirtatious one moment, snappish and standoffish the next. Her rider had
been the same. It felt like her skin was practically crawling with the
tension. She'd relieved it by spending the night with a friend the other
night, but it had just scratched the physical itch, not the frustration
burning in the back of her mind. When Riveenata woke up and saw how
bright Savith was in the morning sun, how she could not be roused, she
was grateful for it, glad the proddiness would end.

When Savith woke from sleep, her thoughts were angry and chaotic, her
eyes whirling with the mating lust. Riveenata threw out her hand before
the green could. "Take me to the flight cots!" she ordered. The green
let her rider mount up and then dropped fast down off of the ledge, down
the cliff to the waves, skimmed around the corner and towards the
feeding grounds and descended to let her rider off so she could savage a
beast and drain its blood. Then she screamed again, flared her wings,
and took off to run through the sky.

A crowd of dragons took off to follow her into the sky. She turned her
neck to see. There was several blues, including one young blue she
didn't know, just out of weyrlinghood; two older bronzes she knew well;
a couple of browns. Her rider's mind noted who the riders were and had
opinions on them, but Savith didn't care. She had more important things
to worry about, like the way the ichor pumped in her veins and her blood
was heated with the need to mate, the way she ached to soar and soar
forever, the way clouds brushed over her wingsails.

C'rin hustled down to the flight room, heart pounding in anticipation as
his eyes locked onto Riveenata. The night they'd spent together after
the bonfire had been good, but he was anxious for more. Dasveth soared
behind Savith, full of youthful exuberance and more than a little
self-confidence.

The last rider to walk into the room was K'lvin, and the look in his
eyes could only be described with one word - hunger. He'd been keeping
himself away from Riveenata, out of sheer willpower, but with Xmrenth's
participation in the flight, resistance was futile. The bronzerider
willingly surrendered his senses to his dragon as they joined together
in the skies above Dolphin Cove.

Savith flew and danced through the clouds, through the sky, occasionally
making sharp twists to change her route or duck into a cloud to hide or
dive dangerously close to the trees. She turned to look back at her pack
now and then. Young blue Rymeth dropped first. Bronze Rogueth reached
out and made a snatch for her, but he was fouled at the last minute by
another dragon - brown Tesrenth - also reaching and getting in the way.
Disappointed, he dropped out.

On the ground, Riveenata didn't see V'rel or K'ran leave the flight
cots. She had eyes only for the riders remaining. K'lvin. C'rin.
A'kades. Of course, she wasn't seeing them. She was seeing through
Savith's eyes and seeing only their dragons. She stepped forward and
reached out for them, considering as Savith did, who might be worthy.

Savith's wings were burning with exertion but she wanted to keep
dragging this out. Flirtily flicking her tailtip, she called, }:Who is
worthy?:{

Dasveth might not have a been a bronze, like the other two dragons left,
but his slightly smaller size lent him more agility as he looped over to
Savith. }:I am worthy,:{ he assured her in a persuasive tone, while his
rider reached out for her on the ground.

His neck was but a breath away from hers, his talons nearly on her. On
the ground C'rin's fingers brushed her arm.

}:Not today, youngling.:{ Xmrenth crowed as he used his size to jostle
the brown out of the way. There was no hesitation, no persuading speech,
Xmrenth latched on to Savith. }:You are mine again.:{ The bronze said in
triumph as he locked talons with her and twined his neck possessively
around hers.

K'lvin mirrored his dragon, shoving C'rin out of the way as he wrapped
his arms around Riveenata.

Riveenata's hands had been out to touch C'rin. Instead, they got crushed
against K'lvin as he wrapped her up. They scrabbled for purchase, and
tangled in his tunic, as she let him take her inside the cot and press
her down against the bed...

Much later, Riveenata lay there in a post-flight haze of bliss. Savith
was purring out contented in her mind. She was lying on her stomach and
registered the press of a warm body on top of her, but her head was
smushed into the pillow so she didn't know who.

K'lvin felt tingles running down to the tips of his toes as the waves of
ecstasy gradually fled from his body, leaving his muscles warm and
relaxed. He dimly registered that there was a soft, lush warmth beneath
him and so he slipped onto his side, drawing the body beneath him into
arms as he did.

She mumbled something and rolled with the person moving her, curving her
spine so she could tuck in and up against him. "mmm," she said.

He closed his eyes and enjoyed the feeling of the body that was tucked into his. It fit perfectly, he noted. It was familiar. K'lvin's brain felt fuzzy and satiated from the flight, and still had not registered who exactly was in his arms.

The man behind her had a solid body she could feel sheltered by and protected by, and the chest wasn't the only part of him that was hard and notable. She wriggled her hips a little to shift the friction. She was so pleased by the flight and beginning to wonder if the person with her would be up for another round. Wondering who it was, she shifted herself a little to turn her cheek so it wasn't awkwardly pressed into the arm but instead could look up and see his face, her silken hair brushing along his skin as she did so. She blinked when she recognized the face, familiar and dear as it was becoming.

"K'lvin," she breathed out. Her tone was surprised but there was a husky note of desire in it, too. Just from the residual flight-lust? Or from her own feelings?

K'lvin's eyes met Riveenata's, and there it was again, that electric feeling that he had only experienced with her. He couldn't will up the self-control to leave, not when she was looking at him like that, not when she was plastered against him like a second skin.

He kissed her hungrily, making up for lost time. She tasted just as he remembered, a taste he'd even dreamed about.

She shuddered as their lips crashed together, her lips parting to let him suck one into his mouth, nibble at it, and sucked encouragingly at his tongue when he slipped it between her lips. She'd been missing him since he left, she wanted him, and clearly, he wanted her. She could feel the proof of it. One hand came up to cradle his cheek tenderly.

--

As euphoria faded and reality came crashing back, K'lvin knew that he needed to treat this like any other flight. If he hung around the way he had after the first flight with Riveenata, he would be right back where he started. Head-over-heels in love with a woman too many Turns his junior. He sat up and swung his feet down to the floor. "It was a good flight, Riveenata. Xmrenth is pleased." It was something he would have said to a greenrider he barely knew.

She felt a sudden chill against her body as K'lvin sat up and moved away from her, as the physical gap between them widened and felt like the emotional one. Her hand had slipped away from his cheek as he moved and her fingers curled. "K'lvin," she said again. "Savith and I have missed you."

"I've missed you too," his voice was gruff as he pulled his pants on, stepped into his boots, and then found his shirt.

"Then stay," she said, her voice rough and low.

"I can't." It hurt to say the words because he desperately wanted to stay but he still believed that he was not the best option for Riveenata's life. If he stayed now he would never leave her again.

"I want this, you want this...just talk to me," she pleaded, but she could tell he was on his way out.

She reached for her own clothing and grabbed it, yanking a tunic over her head and blinking to clear the tears from her eyes. "Fine," she said, gritting out her words through a choked-up throat. "You and Xmrenth have a good day."

And she...she'd go take a bath or go eat food since without Savith it was hard to get to her weyr and she knew the green would stay curled up with her mate for some time. Maybe he'd go back to his weyr and brood, just like she'd be brooding elsewhere. She hoped so if he was going to shatter her heart like this.
