Two is Too Much

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 6th September 2019

Characters: Aileyan, Galad
Description: Aileyan talks to an old friend...
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 19 of Turn 9

"Well if that isn't the look of a woman in need of a drink, I don't
know what is. What's on your mind, Aileyan?" Galad said as he sat
next to the greenrider with a pitcher and pushed a glass of something
suspiciously stronger than wine her direction. "And don't pretend that
I haven't known you longer than your pretty little green has."

The two of them had indeed been candidates together before Aileyan
Impressed. "Well, you know my love life, right?" Based on what Galad
had said earlier, her love life was more interesting than the best of
harper plays.

"Mmhmm," he hummed as he took a drink from his very full glass.
"That J'nev is yummy. And he sure is into you! I haven't seen that
boy so besotted!"

"Too bad he's not your type, you two would make a cute couple,"
Aileyan said and took a careful sip at the drink.

Galad sensed gossip! "My dear, are you saying that he may not be
_your_ type? I thought bronzerider was your type!"

"Wrong bronzerider," Aileyan murmured.

Her friend gasped and clutched her arm. "Aileyan, how many bronzeriders does one girl need?"

"One," Aileyan replied. "Trust me, two is too much."

"Says you," Galad grumbled into his glass. "Alright, fine. Who is this new bronzerider that has caught your attention?"

"U'kaiah," Aileyan drained her glass. "I've been so angry at him for so long but now we're been...patching up things. So I'm kind of stuck between two of them. I don't have the heart to break it off with J'nev, yet I know he's going to hurt when he founds out I've been with U'kaiah." She pushed her glass for refill. Maybe getting drunk was what she needed. "And I feel like cheater."

"U'kaiah?!" Galad said with a shake of his head. "What are you doing running back to him for? I thought we were mad at that boy when he left you and broke your heart. What did that silvery tongued wherry say to get you to forget the last couple Turns he's put you through?"

"Well, it's kind of complicated," Aileyan sighed and guided him thru the latest twist in her love life.

Galad refilled his glass and topped hers off thoughtfully as he processed all she had told him. "All right, I get that you still love U'kaiah, though I'm still not sure he deserves it. And I get that J'nev is a diversion for a lonely night. But there's one thing I don't understand." He handed her glass back to her with a look about as serious as he ever had. "So what if you and U'kaiah love each other? He's not coming back."

"Why do you think I keep drinking this swill you're serving me?" Aileyan was well on her way to drunk. "I love a guy who's not here and cheat the guy who is here and I don't even give him a fair chance. I'm such a terrible person," she was moving towards the self pity

"You're not a terrible person Aileyan," Galad assured her as he draped an arm over her shoulder. "You just..." **Need to get that ass U'kaiah out of your head!** "You just need to stop thinking so much. Live in the moment. When you're with U'kaiah, have your fun and don't think about what J'nev would say or think. And when you're with J'nev, don't think about U'kaiah. He's out banging his share of women out where he is." Before she could object he leaned back and said sternly, "You know it's true. That man _earned_ his reputation and you know it. So take a page out of his book and just enjoy what's in front of you."

"I wish I could, but all I manage is feel guilty. Conscience is such a bitch," Aileyan moaned.

"It is, and I don't waste my time with bitches." Galad turned in his seat to face her. "You know what you need to do? You need to just go right now and find J'nev, wherever he is. If he's standing, shove him up against a wall. If he's sitting, straddle that boy and pin him in his chair. Take his face in your hands and kiss him until he begs for mercy and then tell him exactly what you want him to do to you. That's what you should do."

Which was something like she's done with U'kaiah. She stared Galad. "I'm too drunk, I probably tip over if I try to stand," Aileyan said, pronouncing clearly.

"Aileyan," Galad said in his most gentle tone, "U'kaiah isn't coming back. J'nev is here."

"I know," Aileyan said. Then she leaned against his shoulder and started to cry.
