Voices. She heard them, but couldn't quite make the words make sense as she struggled against the fellis-induced sleep.

"...open fracture...leg....several ribs....mild concussion...."

**Where am I?** Catriana thought as she tried to open her eyes. It was dark in the room, but what little she could make out was utterly unfamiliar. She couldn't move. Something was preventing her from moving, she couldn't sit up. Her chest felt so tight it was almost difficult to breathe...She remembered the smoke, dust...something pinning her to the ground in the dark. She began to panic, and cried out.

"Shhhh, Cat, it's all right," a deep voice said as a large hand began smoothing the hair back from her forehead. "You're safe now, just tryto relax."

"Daigoro?" She wanted to cry. At the sound of his voice, tears stung her eyes and she had to fight to keep them from falling. "Where...what...? Why can't I move?"

"The healers have you immobilized. It's just a precaution. You're going to be fine," he murmured softly.

Immobilized......"Why? What happened?" She asked softly.

"You were caught in a cave-in during the earthquake," the Hallsecond replied gently. "You have injured your leg and some of your ribs are broken. You also hit your head pretty badly. But the important thing is you are alive, dear girl. You are alive and you will be just fine."

She didn't want to remember all of that yet. "My brother? Cinale? Are they....alright?"

"Yes, they are both just fine," Daigoro smiled. "Your brother has been terribly worried about you, you know. He will be relieved to see you awake."

"I didn't mean to worry everyone. How...bad is it? The Hall, I
mean..." If she was trapped in the kitchen when the second floor came crashing down, that probably meant it was bad.

"Well, we cannot live here anymore," the Hallsecond said gently. "We will have to find a new home. It sounds like we will be going to Amber Hills Hold. It's not far away, and they have space for all of us."

"But...what about all the vines? And the cellar stock...and the
equipment? Did it all survive?"

"Hush, Cat. Don't get too excited now. Everything will be all
right. What we have lost we will get back in time. The fact that we are alive is far more important at this point."

"But all that work..." she closed her eyes. In a moment, she opened them again. "What is Amber Hills like?"

"Don't you worry. We will fit right in," he smiled. "There are vines there too, and barely for brewing. Its in the middle of a valley and surrounded by hills and mountains on all sides, but the sky is blue and bright. There's a river to cool off in the summer, and electricity to heat us up in the winter. Don't you worry about it, lass. We'll feel right at home in no time."

"I hope so. It's just going to be a lot of work, starting over again." And here she was, broken and unable to assist with the move andrebuilding. "I feel so helpless."

"Don't you talk that way, Cat," the Hallsecond said firmly. "We almost lost you. I'm just thankful you're alive, girl. You may not be able to work for a while, but I much rather that than have lost you all together." There were too many friends lost as it was.

"Thank you, Daigoro." She was hard pressed to keep from crying again. "Is there anything I can do? I mean..I'll be stuck like this for awhile."

"Well, for the next few days, you need to rest. You won't be immobile long, and in a few days you will be in your new home. You won't be able to explore right away, and certainly not walk much for a bit, but you will be able to sit up and then we'll find something to occupy your time. I promise you that."

"I'll hold you to it. I _do_ want to help, in any way I can." Catriana sighed and leaned back against the pillows.

"And I won't forget," Daigoro nodded. "Rest now, Cat. The healers have something to give you to help you sleep. That's the best thing you can do right now."

"Yes, sir." Catriana yawned. "And sir...thank you..."

He smiled and pet her hair gently. "I'm glad you're safe, Cat. Things just wouldn't be the same without you anymore." The Hallsecond then left the healers to their work.
