Ar'lis watched her out of the corner of his eye as he tugged his shirt
over his head, throwing it carelessly over the back of the sofa. "Well,"
he said, his voice a little slurred from all the ale he'd consumed, "I've
been to better parties than that." And this was the one Hatching that he
should have enjoyed the most! They were _Zylarth's_ hatchlings.

"Oh, I don't know. The music was bright and lively. I'm sorry you didn't
feel so much like dancing," Gaiya said as she picked the tunic up from the
back of the sofa and walked it over to the basket of laundry on the other
side of the room. She had to remember to send that down the next day or
it would stink up the whole weyr of the fine brew they had that night.

"I danced."

"I know you did," Gaiya replied soothingly. "And it was wonderful."
Though two dances wasn't quite what she had in mind for the evening.

His eyes narrowed slightly at her before he sat down to kick off his
boots. He didn't particularly like that tone of voice... Shaking his
head slightly, he ran his fingers through his hair. "Zylarth was happy."

"Of course he is, his children were born today." She picked up his boots
and moved them into the sleeping area. "They were all beautiful."

Ar'lis nodded, but a slight frown hinted at his mouth. Gaiya was right of
course. All the eggs had hatched, and the hatchlings were healthy. But
the lack of bronzes was not lost on him. And there had been so few
browns...

From the ledge, Zylarth gave a soft croon, not really understanding why
his rider was upset. }:But they are mine, Ar'lis. Mine and Vilarth's.
My first.:{

Gaiya brought him a glass of water. After the amount of alcohol he drank,
she was sure he would be feeling it in the morning. It might not
completely stop the inevitable, but it might help.

"Thanks, sweetheart," he murmured, taking the glass from her. After
taking a quick swig, he scooted over and patted the cushion next to him.
"Sit down, hmm?"

She slipped onto the cushion next to him. Part of her was reluctant. She
knew he wasn't happy about the outcome of the Hatching, and she would need
to continue the role she had been playing all night - the proud lover who
tried to convince him that everything was all right, that life was still
good and that there was still things to be positive about. It was a role
she had been playing ever since Lenala's flight, and she was getting so
exhausted playing it. But she smiled and ran her fingers through his
hair. **Shards, why can't things just be _fun_ like they were in the
beginning...**

Ar'lis shifted until he was leaning against the arm of the sofa, then he
pulled her along his body and caught her lips with his, gently at first
then with more passion. It was easier now than it had been before to just
talk with his body, and not his sharding words.

Gaiya returned the kiss with equal passion, but very little emotion behind
it. Sex had become just another way to make Ar'lis feel better about
himself. It wasn't that it was _bad_, just not what she wanted. But it
would make Ar'lis feel better...

He growled softly against her lips, running his hands down her sides,
pulling her tighter against him - searching. But what he was searching
for...he didn't _know_. Something _more_. "I think you might be wearing
too many clothes, girl."

"Well, you'd best do something about that, bronzerider," she said as she
nibbled his jawline. But inside she was wondering if that certain spark
would ever come back. Where was the fun? The romance? The sweeping off
her feet that had marked the beginning of their relationship? He had
stepped out of her daydreams and into her bed. But now it was just all
too real, with too little fantasy left.
