As Alaudath descended, Kamalia continued to focus on keeping the green
calm. She was finding it hard to separate her own pain from that of
her dragon, but had enough presence of mind to be pretty sure her
wound was more minor than Alaudath's. **Great landing** she said
encouragingly, glad they were on the ground and help was on the way.

While undoing her riding straps, she finally looked down at her left
calf and felt a surge of relief that she didn't see any bone and,
while there was some bleeding, the wound didn't seem too deep. Looking
farther down, she could see that the Thread must have just grazed her
leg, while it seemed Alaudath had taken the brunt of it. From her
position, she could only see part of the wound, and the ichor coming
from it. She also noticed Thread had eaten through a piece of
Alaudath's chest strap. She quickly averted her eyes, tamping down the
spike of fear at what she saw. Kamalia awkwardly slid down, landing on her
good leg and holding the other leg up, eyes searching for the nearest
dragonhealer.

}:Easy there,:{ Branth instructed Alaudath as his keen eyes watched
the green land. The brown then reached out to his rider. }:There's an
injured green that's just come in.:{

**Who's available?** W'ser asked not even looking up from the patient
he was currently with. His sleeves were rolled to his elbow and the
front of his apron was stained with dragon ichor.

Branth surveyed the dragons and dragonhealers currently working.
}:Those with enough skill are busy. It will need to be you.:{

**I'm on my way,** W'ser replied.

"T'gai, take over. The debridement is finished." The Weyrdragonhealer
turned and washed his hands briskly before heading out to the waiting
Alaudath.

Alaudath calmed a bit at the brown's words. }:It hurts!:{ she told him
plaintively.

Kamalia saw the Weyrdragonhealer and felt both alarmed that someone so
senior was approaching them and reassured that Alaudath was in good
hands. "She's Scored!" she told him, gesturing to the dripping wound.

"We'll take care of her," W'ser assured Kamalia, putting a kind hand
to her shoulder. "Let me assess the threadscore." He assessed Alaudath
with a critical eye, noting the depth and breadth of the score that
started at the neck and shoulder joint and dipped down across her left
pectoral muscle.

"From first glance, I think it's messier than it is serious. It
looks like the score cut through her fatty tissue but I don't think it
breached the actual muscle tissue. Let's get her inside and I can get
a more accurate assessment. I know things like this happen in a flash,
but can you remember how long it took you to go /between/ after the
Thread fell on you?"

As W'ser looked over Alaudath, a healer came by to look at Kamalia's
calf, leaving her with some numbweed and a promise to have a more
comprehensive exam once Alaudath was settled.

While she still did not like the look of the injury, W'ser's words
were promising. **See? You're going to be fine.**

At his question, she paused and thought back to the moment of the
threadscore. "Alaudath flew to the right and burned some thread, then
we went /between/ to get back into formation. When we came out of
/between/, that's when it hit us. We went back /between/ pretty
quickly. No more than a second or two? I'm not sure though." It had
seemed fast at the time.

Once they were settled into the dragon infirmary, W'ser flushed out
the wound with water, allowing him to see past the dragon ichor.
"Well, greenrider, your training and instincts served you well." He
rubbed Alaudath's flank soothingly. "The spore didn't have enough time
to burrow past the fatty tissue. The muscle is preserved and
untouched. She will have limited mobility while the threadscore heals,
however. No flying for a sevenday, no /betweening/ for a fortnight. At
the end of the fortnight come back by and if everything has healed
well, I'll clear you for flying 'fall again."

Kamalia stood at Alaudath's side to help comfort the green, but near
her tail to stay out of the way. While ichor did not make her
squeamish, it did raise her anxiety, so she quickly decided to look
elsewhere and focus on keeping her green still. Alaudath was still in
pain but less than before, and was even starting to wonder what the
male dragons would think of her scar once it healed.

The greenrider nodded at W'ser's instructions, her fears largely
receding. Soon, they would be back in the sky and everything would go
back to normal. "I'm glad she's going to be ok."

Using a wooden paddle, W'ser applied a thick, liberal layer of
numbweed to Alaudath's score. "That should be feeling a lot better,"
he said to the green. "We'll leave the wound open to heal since it
didn't penetrate too deeply. I'll send a dragonhealer by in a few
candlemarks to reapply the numbweed and make sure Alaudath is still
comfortable. She can, of course, reach out to Branth at any time."

Alaudath made a contented noise as the numbness spread, which made
Kamalia relax even more. }:That's nice. I'm feeling tired now.:{

**I'm sure you'll be able to sleep once we get you settled into a
weyr nearby,** Kamalia told her. Then, to W'ser, "She feels really
good now. Just tired."

"Excellent," W'ser smiled kindly. "Lavram," he called to a nearby
apprentice. "Please take Kamalia and Alaudath to one of the empty
weyrs." To Kamalia he said, "You can stay there with Alaudath until
she's cleared for flying again."

"Thank you," Kamalia said earnestly. Then, she turned to follow
Alaudath to their temporary weyr, ready to cater to her every need as
she healed.
