E'kavas

E'kavas

It had been an excessively rainy morning. Consequently, the weyrbowl had been reduced to little more than a glorified puddle of mud. A weyrling known as K'aur could be found muttering to himself as he trudged through the mud, a brown dragon following along behind him.

He didn't see it coming when his dragon reached a paw forward to casually bat him into the mud.

However, the entirety of Dragonsfall likely heard it when a filthy K'aur seethed, "Remiath... I will... Sharding... _Kill you_!"

E'kavas wasn't meant to be out in this weather either, but he'd just managed to wrangle the younger kids into their jackets and rainboots and direct the youngest vaguely away from the worst of the mud. The creche workers appreciated the kids arriving a little soggy and less muddy, and he was making his away again across the weyrbowl when he caught sight of a weyrling going face first into the mud.

Roquath must have been watching from his ledge; he felt the rumble of laughter in the corners of his mind and couldn't help but crack a smile. His voice was tinged with laughter when he called out, "Got a lively one, huh?"

"I got him and now I'm ready to return him," K'aur growled. He moved to stand up, only for Remiath to reach forward and swat him back into the mud the second he was on his feet.

"Boots!" K'aur shouted. "I'm going to make myself a pair of dragon-hide boots!"

Remiath sat back on his hunches with a snort. }: With those tiny little human hands? I don't think so. :{

"Unfortunately the Weyr requires the original bill of sale." E'kavas said. He kept his distance, just in case the weyrling decided he'd rather bat an old man around. Plus...he had already worked very hard to keep the mud off his boots.

"I know I risk sounding like a know-it-all parent, but my beast smartened up when I started refusing eyeridge scritches. I can't turn him into boots, but I could make consequences mildly uncomfortable."

"Refusing eyeridge sketches, huh?" K'aur glanced thoughtfully at Remiath. "If I cut out eyeridge skritches _and_ extra oilings, maybe he'll finally remember who's boss." The weyrling turned a sneering grin toward his dragon-

-Only for the brown to plant one paw in the middle of his chest and shove him onto his back in the mud.

"Feck!" K'aur cried. After a moment of squirming uselessly, he rolled his head toward E'kavas and growled, "This is your fault."

"_My_ fault?" E'kavas asked. "I was just walking by, looking forward to making klah before drills. And hoping that my own dragon wasn't off rolling in a pit of mud somewhere. It's always too cold for that."

}: Rude. :{ Roquath said, as if he had never once considered it.

"Does that mean you're going to do something to fix this?" K'aur challenged.

His question was met with Remiath pressing down on him, just enough to wedge him a little deeper in the mud, with a belligerent snort. }: Fix your own problems, lazy boy. :{

"Come on!" K'aur shouted.

"That would mean _my_ dumb beast would need a bath too." E'kavas said. **Go ahead, buddy.**

Roquath leapt from his ledge and dove down, landing easily in the muddy weyrbowl and hip-hopping over. In an imitation of Remiath, he smacked the other brown with a heavy paw.

Remiath fell back with a dramatic wail. Like a boneless creature, he flopped into the mud, where he lifted his head to glower at Roquath. }: Unfair, :{ he grumbled.

"Sharding _finally_!" K'aur exclaimed, clambering to his feet. He looked down at his mud-covered self, scowled, and then refocused on E'kavas with a grumbled, "I suppose this means I owe you."

}: Yeah, yeah. :} Roquath said, dismissively. }: Wasn't fair to pick on Yours, either. :}

"What? No. Everyone goes through it. Roquath is still a jerk sometimes, but he was the worst when he was little and testing boundaries." E'kavas eyed the (comparatively) littler brown. "They're kind of like children."

"But they grow up, right?" K'aur earnestly asked.

Remiath, meanwhile, said, }: Of course it was. He is mine to pick on as I please. Builds character. :{

"Sure, mostly." E'kavas shrugs. "May want to get him under control before a smack like that is hard enough to kill someone, though. I'd make my life a lot harder if Roquath couldn't be trusted around my kids. But you've got time before you worry about that, huh?"

}: Does it? Didn't look like it. :{ Roquath said, }: Looks like your rider is just muddy and upset.:{

K'aur groaned. "I don't even want to _think_ about that right now," he said. "But... I guess you have a point." It would really, really suck if his dragon accidentally killed someone.

Especially if he continued to be utterly unrepentant about it.

}: Yes, and? :{ Remiath asked. }: It's _funny_. :{

"Do you want Roquath to escort him back to the barracks?" E'kavas asked. "It'd at least keep you mud-free until you're dry."

}: Is it? Don't you feel it like he does? :{

"Please," K'aur groaned.

}: I do, but I don't mind, :{ Remiath rumbled. }: His reaction makes up for it. Why? Are you allergic to fun? :{

}: I'm not. I have fun with dragons my own size. :{ Roquath said. He lifted his big brown paw up at E'kavas' instruction. }: You heard him. Up you get. :{

}: I don't take orders from your rider, :{ Remiath grumbled, following E'kavas' orders.
