Z'ku

Z'ku

Z'ku kept his eye on the newly-graduated weyrlings as Rapids drilled. They seemed fairly well-trained, but transitioning to a fighting Wing was still an adjustment and they would need to learn fast.

When the drill was over he had Xemroth ask Brandith and her rider to join them. "Wingrider Reyela," he kept his tone even. "You were slow on the changeover and out of position twice."

**Flame and char! He noticed,** Reyela hid a grimace.

}:Noticed what?:{

**That we were out of position and slow at the changeover,** Reyela reminded Brandith.

Brandith gave an exasperated mental sigh. }:That was a long time ago. When are you coming out to swim with me?:{

**When I'm done getting us out of trouble!** Or at least accepting her knocks with good grace. Reyela managed a sheepish smile. "Yes, sorry Wingsecond. We're working on it."

"I know, you're new." Z'ku folded his hands behind his back. "Study the formation charts again to have everything fixed firmly in your mind. Your issues were minor, but Thread is unforgiving."

"Yes, I know." It wasn't as if she saw the after effects of Thread in the Dragonhealing Infirmary daily or anything. If Z'ku wasn't as good looking as he was, Reyela would be annoyed. But he was that good looking, so she wasn't.

She was so young, so recently out of weyrlinghood, and seemed to be making a good effort, so Z'ku couldn't bring himself to be too harsh. "But on the whole, you and Brandith are doing well."

Reyela beamed at him. "Thank you, sir! I-- for what it's worth, I'm really happy to be in Rapids Wing. Everyone's been really good to me."

That earned her a little smile. "Not disappointed you weren't chosen for the Weyrleader's Wing?"

"Not a bit-- I'll always be a 'Bluff girl at heart. It's nice to feel like there's a little bit of home around me, you know?"

"Ahh, right. Rapids came from River Bluff." Between the creation of Barrier Lake and the general changes that happened during a Pass, almost half the riders in Rapids were no longer from River Bluff. "You didn't want to transfer to Barrier Lake? Or did they have enough Candidates?"

"Too much family here," she said brightly, although with her Grandfather and Uncle now gone was that even true anymore?

"Well, Dolphin Cove is happy to have you, especially since you're a dragonhealer."

"That's the plan! Y'gel's been a great teacher, and I appreciate you putting me on the first half of the 'Fall for that reason. I feel like the dragon infirmary can use the extra help by the time I get down there."

The Wingsecond nodded. "It seemed to be the best use of your skills."

She smiled. "Well, I appreciate you arranging the schedule to allow me that opportunity. Aside from working on that change though... is there anything that I can do for you?"

"Oh, well . . ." Z'ku hadn't expected a question like that. "For now just focus on integrating into the Wing and memorizing the formations. And keep up with your dragonhealer studies, of course."

**Darn.** It was on the tip of her tongue to follow up with 'are you _sure_'? but that could wait for next time. Flirting was a long game. "Well, let me know if you change your mind or think of anything else," she said brightly. "And I'm probably taking up too much of your time already. I should probably go."

Z'ku nodded. "If you have any difficulties or need clarifications with formations, let me or S'kand or one of the more experienced wingriders know."

"I appreciate you making yourself so available." Just not available enough... **Yet!** Reyela resisted the urge to wink as she left. Barely.
