Description: H'run hosts a long-awaited party.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 13 of Turn 11
Notes: Mentioned: L'val. A lot.
H'run's tiny weyr couldn't fit any more people even if they pushed their way in, so the party had spilled into the hallway. Which meant that it was a sharding good party.
Wine flowed freely (a little bribe to the kitchens helped with that) and several people had brought gifts, which had made the bluerider very pleased indeed. K'mai had been right about gifts improving one's mood.
After leading several songs, H'run passed his gitar to the nearest person with a free hand, poured himself a giant glass of wine, and stood on a chair to get everyone's attention. "I would like to play a game! If you dare, do come join me in the corner!"
D'erik didn't know immediately what to do with the gitar that H'run had shoved into his hands. He spun this way and that before propping it against what he hoped was a safe spot. "I'm in!" he declared, snatching another cup of wine as he followed the other bluerider into the corner.
"It's supposed to be 'join me in the closet', H'run!" G'zan called, his bellowing voice carrying over the noise of the party. He paused only long enough to toss back the entirety of one of the drinks tha he was double-fisting, and then bullied his way through the crowd towards the corner. "Count me in!"
Kamalia was nearing the end of her second glass of wine, which meant she was feeling warm and fuzzy, but not tipsy enough to want to join H'run's game. She was very curious to see who ended up making a fool of themselves though. "This should be interesting," she said, half to herself, as she eased her way in that direction.
E'kavas had, up until that moment, been having a nice conversation with a greenrider in that corner. Now he was staring blankly at the rest as he tried to piece together exactly what he'd missed. "Join you _where_? _What?_" He asked, but expected that between G'zan and H'run, it was nothing good.
"_Not_ in my closet," H'run pointed at G'zan, "And I think we should play 'Most Likely To'. Whoever gets nominated as the most likely to do something, gets to suggest the next category. Hmm..." He tapped his lip as he pretended to think, enjoying having an audience. "Who do you think is most likely to try to seduce their Wingleader?"
Jadirah had heard about the party and decided to arrive. The fact that there were many attractive riders, male and female, attending was a delight for her. A little bit on a professional level, seeing them manage the tension of their lives in a way that would be healthy. But she didn't want to think professionally right now. She was excited to just be Jadirah, a woman who wanted to drink and get laid, let down her hair and not be 'The Serious Master Healer'.
"Everyone in Cyan!" K'mai shouted.
"Uh, no." E'kavas said, ready to roll with whatever was happening here. "But he is in Cyan Wing. G'zan."
"Don't sell yourself short, E'kavas! I do believe you would very successfully seduce L'val if you put your mind to it." H'run gave the brownrider a suggestive once-over before turning to G'zan. "You're up!"
G'zan took a long swig from his remaining drink before replying. "Well okay, it depends: are we talkin' about some, uh... what's the word? _Theoretical_ wingleader? Or we talkin' about L'val? 'Cause shards, I'd do L'val." He took another drink. "Nobody think about that too hard, 'cause if your dragons pick it up he's gonna hear it." He didn't sound particularly worried about that, however -- in fact, he was still grinning. "Okay, okay, seriously though...I might try, but who'd actually pull it off? I vote N'kyri!"
"G'zan! I knew you trusted me in the skies, but you think I can lure that stodgy bronzer to the other side of the sheets? I'm touched by your faith in me." Hand to his heart, N'kyri looked pleased and amused, and more than a little tipsy. "As far as I've been hearing, L'val is a man for the ladies. That means... Kamalia!" He pointed dramatically to the nearest female wingmate he could see. "You're the Most Likely, girl!"
Kamalia had been shifting closer to the action, enjoying the banter. When she was called, though, her eyes widened in horror. "No way! He's too old for me." Looking around the room, she belated added, "No offense. And, the whole hearing dragons thing creeps me out. Besides, I don't think he'd go for anyone in Cyan. He's too much of a professional." She looked around the room, eyes settling on someone and a wide smile crossing her face. "I think Jadirah has the best shot!"
"Now _that_ is some action I'm willing to put some marks on," D'erik piped in. He worked elbow to elbow with Jadirah in the infirmary and the woman could charm even the surliest of patients, there was no way she wouldn't be able to seduce the Wingleader. "My money is on Jadirah succeeding." He winked at the Master Healer. "Don't let me down."
"Oh yes, I like this idea." H'run rubbed his hands together as a wicked light gleamed in his eyes. "Let's make this a true wager. If Jadirah is able to seduce the Wingleader by Turn's End, D'erik owes you a mark. I'll also throw in a mark. Anyone else? Let's make this too good for our good Master to turn down.”
“I might be on for this _without_ the mark. He is very very handsome, and I could use another bronze rider as a conquest.” She smirked.
"And what about if you lose, Master Healer Jadirah? What skin are you willing to sacrifice in this game?" H'run asked.
"Oh, that's a very very tough one... I have a half-mark of my own to offer, plus I have _very_ good massage skills and I have access to salves to make it even better. One massage and your choice of two salves after. Possibly more if it's worth the while."
"I'll accept that as a bet." A massage and two salves?! H'run could barely conceal his glee. There was nothing in their bet about working against Jadirah... perhaps he'd make it more of a challenge for her, just so that he could enjoy that massage.
"Wait wait wait," G'zan waved his arms, sloshing a bit of his remaining drink on whoever was unfortunate enough to be standing right next to him. "There's more than one person in on this, y'know. I'm throwin' in a mark, too. Are you saying that you're gonna give a massage and two salves to _everybody_ who's betting against you if you lose?"
D'erik wiped G'zan's drink off his face with the sleeve of his tunic.
"That _is_ a lot of massages," he agreed.
**Spoilsports.** H'run batted his eyelashes. "I'm willing to suffer for the Wing."
"I'll risk a mark for the chance at that sort of 'suffering,'" laughed N'kyri.
**I have made a mistake,** Jadirah thought, recognizing the trap. Aloud, she said, "How about this - D'erik threw in the mark, so I think he get the massage and two salves. But I could add in a small jar of salve for everyone else who bet in, and Kamalia could get a choice of massage or a bigger salve for suggesting me?"
"Sounds like a fair deal, besides, I have faith that you'll seduce the Wingleader, and then the massages and salves won't even be necessary." D'erik raised his glass in toast to Jadirah.
"That works for me!" Kamalia called out, raising her glass. She hadn't expected her suggestion to lead to all of this, but was happy to get something out of it. She wouldn't mind a massage.
"Fair enough, I guess," G'zan mock-grumbled, throwing back the last of his drink. "But if I do get a salve, _somebody's_ gonna have to come by and give me a massage sometime. I'm taking volunteers. Promise I'll make it worth it for ya." He bounced his eyebrows suggestively.
"I'm no healer, but I'm always willing to lend a hand." K'mai winked. "Or two."
"Well, that's settled. We'll all see Jadirah about our salves at Turn's End, " said N'kyri with a cheeky grin and more confidence than was rightly warranted. "But the game must go on! It's your call now, master. What's our next Most Likely question?"
"Since betting is in the air, may I suggest 'most likely to lose a bet'?" H'run said. "I'll go first..."
