C'rin

C'rin

Cirina was walking away from where the weyrlings were starting their lessons, looking forward to a nice nap, when Digger suddenly appeared in front of her, trilling happily. She blinked at the brown firelizard for a moment, "What could Aeoluth possibly need now, I just finished-"

He made the same disapproving sound he made when she refused to give him snacks, instead zooming off towards a familiar, but unexpected brown. Face breaking into a grin, Cirina started running towards her brother.

She was more disheveled than usual, half soaked from bathing a baby dragon, and there was still blood under her nails from that same dragon's breakfast, but she was all smiles, "C'rin! I didn't know you were coming!"

C'rin's lightly bearded face spit into a grin as he saw his sister. He opened his arms for a hug and then took a step back as he realized she was half-wet. "Maybe I should have given you some warning, it seems," he teased.

She lunged to give him a big soggy hug anyway. "Oh, but I always love when you drop by. I was giving Aeoluth a bath. Hi Dasveth, were you a wiggly brat as a baby, too? Is it a baby brown thing?"

Dasveth spoke directly to Cirina. }:I do not remember being a baby, but I feel certain I have only ever been majestic and regal.:{

C'rin laughed, rolling his eyes. "Oh, he wasn't wiggly, but he wasn't regal either. He was chunky and difficult to carry when he fell asleep after eating."

"Oh, of course. Majestic from hatching," Cirina agreed with the brown. "One of the weyrlings got himself trampled by his brown and I've been helping until he gets the stitches out. It's a lot of work."

"Ah, is that why you're giving 'Aeoluth' a bath? I was afraid you had invented an imaginary dragon best friend again, like when you were little."

The reminder made her blink for a moment, she'd almost forgotten that embarrassing part of her childhood, before huffing, "Of course not. My imaginary Sageth was the sweetest little thing who would never knock me on my rump shaking herself off. Anyway, yeah. I'm helping... it's nice to be busy." she'd said that a lot the last few days.

"Really?" he asked, looking her in the eyes in only the way a sibling can.

"I.... " She waffled, "I think so, yeah. It at least distracts me from thinking about how I have to wait. Again," she sighed dramatically, with her whole body.

"Hey, I get it. I stood for five Turns before impressing Dasveth. It gets to be... draining. At least you have your harpercraft to fall back on in the. mean time. Focusing on that is what really helped me during all the Turns of Standing."

"Ugh, my harpercraft. It's not like that is ever going to do me any good. I don't want to leave the Weyr, it's home. It's just something to do while I wait." She struggled a little, but she still managed to find some of her usual optimism, "But we have a new gold, so hopefully I won't have to wait too long.

C'rin understood that feeling, too. "You have time to grab something to eat while I'm here? You know," he waved in her general direction, "after you get cleaned up."

"What, you don't like my new look? Yeah, I just need like five minutes to change. And then you can tell me everything that's been going on with you the last few months! I want all the gossip," she called back as she started heading towards the barracks and her clean (dry) clothing.

Once they were settled in Barrier Lake's Dining Cavern, C'rin asked, "You heard from Mom or Dad lately?" Their father had never been the same after River Bluff's destruction, but then... **Neither have I,** C'rin thought, his mind running briefly to Riveenata.

"Mum, yeah, some. Dad.. not so much." She shrugged one shoulder, "I guess he's busy." Cirina didn't quite keep all the unhappiness out of her tone, and she quickly changed the subject, "What have you been up to? Anything new and fun? Any new _friends_?" She emphasized the word.

"Well, there's uh..." he trailed off. "And then there's...." C'rin narrowed his eyes with realization and smirked a little. "No, I guess not. I don't think my wingmates count since that's duty-related."

"Wooooooow," Cirina said, "do you need your little sister to come help you make friends? I'm great at it. And very modest. You should throw a card game! Or a party. With wine."

"I was pretty good at making friends before...." Before River Bluff, before Riveenata. It went without saying. "Anyway, I'll make an effort to attend at least _one_ party somewhere at Dragonsfall this month. Will that suffice?"

"Everyone would want you to make new friends," Cirina said softly, "moving on doesn't mean forgetting " Her grin came back at having "won". "One party. This month _and_ next month, and I'll be satisfied."

"Deal. As long as _you_ agree to try your harper training again while you wait for another clutch on the sands." C'rin raised his eyebrows at her.

She wrinkled her nose at him, but said, "Fiiiiiiiiine."
