Description: The Weyrlingmaster and Weyrleader discuss what to do with C'pier.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 17 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: C'pier, O'rosin, Saedyna
R'lor was meeting with the Weyrleader to discuss how the Weyrlings' training was going. Graduation was coming up soon and while there were a few issues -- O'rosin, for instance -- most of them were making good progress. He tugged at his collar as they briefly went over the youngest riders who would stay in Tsunami. N'vanik had a fondness for working outside and it was sharding _hot_ out here, even in the shade.
R'lor reached the bottom of the list and held back a sigh. Now for the least pleasant subject. "I also think C'pier should graduate to the Fighting Wings."
The Weyrleader's face darkened.
"I'm still angry and I'm sure you are too." This time R'lor did sigh. "But we have to look at this objectively. You need capable riders for the Wings, and he's capable. He's understandably distant with his fellow weyrlings but I don't think he's any danger and his performance in drills is solid."
N'vanik tapped his fingers on his leg. He still wanted to strangle that kid for trying to kill Saedyna and then _lying_ about it, but the Weyrlingmaster was right. "It _was_ your idea to have him repeat weyrlinghood."
"And there's not much more I can teach him. He's still worried his wingmates will abandon him to Thread, but I think the only way he's going to learn that isn't true is to be in a Wing and fight beside his fellow riders."
"Not in Hurricane, that's for flaming sure." Someone else could deal with C'pier.
"I'm sure someone else could use a brownrider?" R'lor had gotten more comfortable talking to the Weyrleader but he was still intimidated by him.
"Yeah, sure." It wasn't R'lor's fault that all this happened so N'vanik added, "I trust your judgment, and we can't put him in the mines, so, might as well put him to use."
"Thank you, sir."
"How's Saedyna?" N'vanik asked. They'd talked briefly about her training but now he wanted to know more about her mental state.
"She hasn't come to me with any issues about C'pier, if that's what you're asking," R'lor said. "I made it clear my door was open, but I think she wants to prove her bravery. And she knows Avarith will protect her." The Weyrlingmaster smiled a little, glad he'd gotten to see Saedyna form such a strong bond with her green.
"We need to talk to her and let her know C'pier is graduating. Make sure she knows she won't be in his Wing." N'vanik would make sure of that. He'd take her for Hurricane if he needed to, even if he didn't want to put the pressure of the Weyrleader's Wing on her.
R'lor nodded. "I assumed that would be the case. Not being in the same Wing, I mean."
"We can talk to her about the rest of his punishment, too. Being a Wingrider will mean he won't have as much time to earn marks." N'vanik said. "And as much as I wish we could, we can't run him ragged forever. Yuliuth at least doesn't deserve that." Between what Loseth and R'lor said, the brown was a very sweet dragon and Faranth knew why he'd picked C'pier.
"Let's get a meeting scheduled, then."
