J'darin

J'darin

Crack! Crack! Boom!

J'darin looked up from the letter he was reading for the hundredth time.
The storm was raging outside, and the increasing violence of it fit his mood incredibly well. He felt like a too-full river that was about to burst its banks. _

Weyrleader J'darin, Greetings, from your father. We are well and beginning to settle at the new location, Amber Hills Hold. We will rebuild the Woodcraft hall here, perhaps, but at the moment there is plenty of use for my skills. Your mother was injured in the earthquake, but she will recover. I've made sure of that, as your sister is not at all ready to take on your mother's duties quite yet, the silly girl. She cries and wails about her home instead of making our new one comfortable, though she does care for your mother, so that at least is helpful. You're doing well as Weyrleader. But, of course, what more would my son do?

Master Woodsmith Jaydar
-

The words blurred a bit. 'Your mother was injured.. but she will recover.. '... 'what more would my son do..' Would it hurt his father to acknowledge once, just once, that it was J'darin's own skills and not to mention the very important fact that a bronze dragon _chose_ him, that had brought him this far? Not being "master Woodsmith Jaydar's" son?

The pain welled up from somewhere deep inside. He kept his emotions so hidden most of the time, except from Hasaarth and Oak. And sometimes Dyaera. }:I knew we would be perfect together.:{ Hasaarth crooned. }:It was you that was for me, and not because of your sire.:{ The Weyrleader bowed his head, clasping his knees together with those long carver fingers. His home was gone. But was it truly his home?

So many turns ago... so many turns... Oak popped from /between/ just then, crooning in conjunction with Hasaarth's bass tones. It was some time before the bronzerider realized there were tears dotting the letter in his hand, marking the hide with water spots wherever they fell. }: We are home now. This is home! We are _home_. :{ Hasaarth was repeating, over and over. Oak curled tightly around his person's wrist, vibrating with the force of his crooning and chirps. But this time.. this time it wasn't enough. He staggered to his Hasaarth's couch just as another lightning crack split the sky over Dolphin Cove open. All the emotions he fought daily
- the worry, the struggle, the pride, the pain, the joy - all of those emotions collapsed in a storm equal to the one raging outside. J'darin leaned hard on the warm, bronze hide of his lifemate, the other half of his heart, and he wept until he could not, driving Hasaarth to distraction. Finally, when he could not break through J'darin's emotions, the bronze trumpeted his disapproval, shaking the Weyr even over the storm. For love of his bronze, the burning tears halted and he lay still, almost like a babe in arms. Almost, he expected Traelyn to come running to his Weyr. But she did not, no one did. His voice was soft as Oak curled up next to him where he lay firmly between Hasaarth's forelegs. "Goodbye, home. I'm home.."
