}:Sebeth says that his cannot see you today after all,:{ Calcifeth relayed to H'run. }:He sends his deepest regrets.:{
The hurt was sharp as a knife slid between his ribs with surgical precision. H'run slumped in his chair. **What? Why?**
}:He did not say why.:{
**Well, where is he?** H'run asked. It had to be something important for K'mai to just _cancel_ on him. He'd been trying to pin the bluerider down for an evening of cards (and maybe other things) for what felt like Turns. K'mai was usually a dependable sort of person, but recently he seemed distracted... Perhaps he was hurt or sick or maybe H'run could surprise him and join him anyway--
}:Sebeth has left the Weyr,:{ Calcifeth told him. }:He did not say where he was going. You should go see someone else or come sit with me on my ledge. He has made you sad and I don't like that.:{
He'd left. H'run stared at his reflection in the mirror as loneliness crashed over him and buried him beneath the sea. He was charming, handsome and fun to be around. So why on Pern had K'mai abandoned him?
Perhaps he'd done something to offend the other bluerider, but no-- K'mai had been warmer toward him than he'd been since H'run had made the mistake of telling him how he felt and dropping the 'L' word like the fool he was. In fact, the other bluerider had been more cheerful than usual of late. K'mai was radiating good cheer like a little sun and H'run was drawn to him like a flower hungry for light. He was a starving man living off the crumbs of attention that fell from K'mai's table.
}:Come sit with me. Bring your gitar,:{ Calcifeth coaxed. }:I would like to hear music.:{
**I can't bear to play.** He threw his hairbrush onto the floor and rested his forehead against the top of his vanity. Music!? Every note would be flat and cold without K'mai there to hear them.
}:Play a sad song then,:{ Calcifeth said. }:Either come play music for me or I am going to find someone else to keep you company. You are unbearable when you mope.:{
**I am not moping!** Moping was for teenagers and lovers with broken hearts. But what was he, if not heartbroken and abandoned by the man he loved? He was cast aside. He was nothing.
And even if he was moping, nobody would care anyway. There was nobody _to_ care.
Maybe K'mai would come back in a candlemark or two and their evening would be saved. When you loved someone, you'd wait. He'd gladly smile through the pain of his abandonment. K'mai hated confrontation, and H'run would do anything to make K'mai happy.
Except... there was something -- or someone -- that K'mai valued more than time with H'run, and not knowing would fester like a splinter beneath his fingernail. **Calcifeth, ask the dragon on Watch where Sebeth went.**
}:I will not,:{ Calcifeth huffed. }:If Sebeth's wanted you to know where he was going, he would have said. I am not going to spy for you. Be reasonable, beloved. Go to the Dining Cavern and find someone to be with.:{
**You hate me.** H'run closed his eyes. Of course his very own dragon refused to help him in any way. Perhaps he'd go drown himself in a bath instead. That would show Calcifeth _and_ K'mai, both.
}:I think that Kyverth's is free. Should I send him to see you?:{ Calcifeth's mindvoice was sly.
H'run shuddered. The very last thing he wanted was to see his Wingleader's face at a time like this. **Don't you dare, you overgrown tunnelsnake! I have no desire to smile and pretend to be happy for people who don't care if I'm there or not.**
}:I hate it when you are sad like this. You need to listen to me and do what I say!:{ Calcifeth's irritated roar echoed across the Weyrbowl. }:Go be with people!:{
**I am _too_heartbroken_ to play pretend, don't you understand?!** H'run snapped. The thought of standing up was exhausting. He was too grief-stricken to stand. All he wanted was burrow into his bedfurs and pretend that the rest of the Weyr didn't exist.
}:FINE!:{
**FINE!**
Calcifeth bang his tail against the inside door to his weyr before his dragon flew off and H'run was finally left alone to wallow in exquisite heartbreak.
