}: It's not terribly far to walk, :{ Jenith remarked as he waddled
alongside his rider. S'yen had slipped his hands in his pockets, as
was his usual mannerism when walking, but there was an adoring smile
on his face as he looked down at the little blue dragon.

By the time they arrived at their destination, that smile was schooled
into S'yen's normal bored expression was back but weakly. He wasn't
sure how he was going to keep any of this charade up. Should he just
start walking around with a giddy grin and accept it? No, that seemed
so...juvenile. Sunshine-y. He was neither of those things.

"W'ser!" he called as they walked into the Infirmary. He was sure that
W'ser had seen him Impress but now he wanted to introduce Jenith to
him.

The Weyrdragonhealer had regretted losing S'yen, since he had been
working so hard and showing such promise, but the regret was
short-lived in the presence of Jenith. The only way a dragohealer
could progress was to impress, after all.

Leaving his office, the older brownrider's face was creased with a
smile that reached his eyes. "Apprentice S'yen." He knew Jenith's
name, but he didn't want to take the moment of introduction away from
the bluerider.

S'yen felt a burst of dumb pride at hearing someone else say his new
name. A smile threatened to break through but S'yen mastered his face
and said, "I have someone to show you." He stepped slightly to the
side as Jenith finished waddling up, presenting his little dragon to
the Weyrdragonhealer. "This is Jenith."

Jenith politely bobbed his head towards the brownrider.

W'ser bowed to Jenith. "What a lovely blue," he said, coming closer to
inspect the young dragon. "He's quite handsome. Much more so than his
clutchmates." The Weyrdragonhealer winked to let S'yen know that would
be their secret.

At W'ser's quiet inspection and veiled praise, Jenith spread his
stubby wings so that the Weyrdragonhealer could get a better look at
his proportions. }: I like him, :{ he told S'yen. }: He has a kind
heart. He's your mentor? :{

**For dragonhealing, yeah,** S'yen answered. **But that has to wait a
bit until you get bigger.**

Jenith swiveled his head towards his rider. His eyes whirled with
excitement. }: We'll be helping other dragons? Healing them of their
injuries? :{

**Yeah, something like that. Best we can, I guess. We can't really
snap our fingers and fix everything--** S'yen didn't really get to
finish the thought. Jenith made a happy trumpeting sound and bounced
in place.

W'ser winced at the proximity of the trumpet but laughed all the
same. "Is this his first time seeing the infirmary?"

“It’s his first time seeing _everything_,” S’yen said with some of his usual dryness but there was a fond smile on his face as he looked down at Jenith.

“It really makes you see the Weyr differently when your lifemate is viewing it for the first time.” W’ser gestured for Jenith to follow. “Let’s show him the infirmary, then.”

S’yen motioned for Jenith to follow W’ser in their little tour. }: This is where we’ll work? When we aren’t fighting Thread? :{

**Yep.**

Jenith paused and sniffed. }: What’s that smell? :{

“Redwort,” S’yen answered without thinking about providing context for W’ser. “Get used to it. It stinks but it keeps the numbweed from numbing my hands, even if it turns them red for a bit.”

W’ser was inwardly very pleased for S’yen. The change in S’yen’s broody nature was remarkable. A dragon could do that to you.

“Here, Jenith,” the dragonhealer said, “is where we keep treats for dragonets who have good check-ups.” He opened the meat box and withdrew a choice cut of meat.

Jenith trilled as he waddled closer. }: I like this place more and more. :{

S’yen let out a sharp huff of amused laughter. “You shouldn’t. It’s…-” he started to say, sharpness in his tone as he readied all of the reasons why the Infirmary sucked but seeing Jenith so…_eager_ to learn, to help was…unsettling. In yet another one of those weird happy moments that S’yen hadn’t prepared to feel.

As Jenith chewed his treat, he looked thoughtfully around. }: Well, it will be _work_ and there will hurt dragons here but… :{ He looked up as his rider. }: We’ll make it better. Together. :{

A watery smile suddenly sprouted on S’yen’s face. “You such a stupidly wonderful sharding ray of sunshine, Jenith.”

W’ser smiled at the one-sided commentary he could hear. Not all dragons were necessarily rays of sunshine, but he was glad that S’yen had caught his own beam of light. He’d needed it.
