H'run

Z'kim walked up to the bluerider with a smile. "H'run, fancy meeting you here."

He was already half in his cups, but it didn't take long for H'run to
recognize the dark-haired greenrider from Dream's End Weyr and pull
him into a hug. "Z'kim, darling! What a surprise! Wherever did you get
that tunic? You look stunning."

Z'kim ran a hand down the fabric. "I _am_ stunning, thank you. You
look wonderful as well. How have you been?"

H'run shrugged a shoulder. If Z'kim didn't know about his retreat to
Dolphin Cove over a broken heart, he certainly wasn't going to give
him that little gift now. "Well enough. I just found this tunic a
few sevendays ago and I cannot take my eyes off the beadwork," he
said, holding up the beaded cuffs. "Simply gorgeous. I am such a slut
for a bit of sparkle, which is why I am shocked that I didn't spot you
sooner. I adore the way the light is catching on the silver threadwork
on your vest."

The greenrider shifted so the threads glimmered. "I know. Worth the
cost." Then he lifted H'run's arm to admire the beadwork. "Ugh. This
is so good it makes me sick." He smiled at H'run.

"I wish I knew who did it and I'd charm them into a million more of
these." The bluerider sighed as the beads caught the light. "I'm
taking this back with me to Dragonsfall when I go and I don't care if
the Headwoman here calls it stealing. It's worth being noticed."

"It _is_ worth being noticed." Z'kim was certainly enjoying the
attention he'd gotten so far tonight.

H'run pursed his lips as he thought. "I keep hearing your name tonight."

"Then my hot dance with Nik is working," Z'kim said with a pleased smirk.

"However did you persuade him?" H'run asked.

"Oh, he _wants_ some fun gossip. There's been a little too much doom
and gloom here lately, and the Weyrleader putting his hands all over a
male greenrider should get some tongues wagging." Z'kim took a sip of
his wine, thinking of the way it had felt to have N'vanik touching his
face and gripping his ass in front of everyone. "I used to think he
was bold for having a nice little slow dance with me."

**Fun gossip?!** N'vanik was a fool. K'mai had already noticed the
Weyrleader's performance, and I'serin was no N'vanik. "Mmm. I seem to
recall Warroth being caught by Loseth once upon a time."

"Many, _many_ times," Z'kim said with a grin. "Faranth, he flies me so good."

"Oh? Tell me _everything_."

"Mmm, maybe I'll give you a few details later. I will say that when
Loseth catches Warroth, N'vanik holds _nothing_ back," Z'kim said.
"Imagine having that man in bed giving you his full, raw passion."

**Dragonlust.** H'run sipped his wine. "I wouldn't mind being held
down by him. You're lucky that Warroth likes Loseth."

"She's very fond of him, always has been. That ridiculously huge beast
would have no chance if she didn't _let_ him." Z'kim chuckled.
"Shards, I'm so glad he still brings Loseth for her flights."

H'run blinked. "He brings Loseth. To you. For Warroth's flights."

Z'kim gave him a slow, smug smile. "Mm-hmm. Not always. There's the
time difference, and 'Fall, and Weyrleader duties and all that. But as
often as he can."

A sinking suspicion that the alcohol couldn't hold back ran its
claws lightly across H'run's insides. He gulped at his wine but the
wine tasted sour. "Oh my. Did he win Warroth's
last flight, then?"

"Yes. He ditched a Wingleader meeting just for us." And then missed
another meeting, lingering in the flightroom.

Weyrleaders didn't prioritize greenflights halfways around Pern. "Mmm.
Lucky _Warroth_."

"Lucky _me_." Z'kim was so tempted to say more, but Nik had his rules,
and as much as he might tease and push things, he honestly didn't want
to do anything to hurt him. N'vanik wasn't ready yet, though judging
by how he'd carried on tonight, it might not be long before he was.

Asking for details was like poking a Threadscore-- it hurt, but he
couldn't help himself. "And?"

Z'kim chuckled. "And what do you think? He's a bronzerider. A flight
is a flight, and then . . ." He shrugged.

"Off they go," H'run said, finishing Z'kim's sentence. "Usually never
to be seen again. Except in your case."

"Well, we _were_ weyrmates." He winked.

"Is that what they're calling sharing a ledge now?"

"I've been calling it that for Turns." Z'kim laughed. "Nik acts like
it's annoying, but I think he secretly likes it."

"It hasn't put him off travelling for your flights so you might be
right." The bluerider gulped at his wine and found it finished. He
wondered where K'mai was, and hoped that he wouldn't run into him
again if he went for more wine. He wasn't sure he could stand it. "I
seem to be out. Do save me a dance, if you haven't already promised
your night to a series of bronzeriders?"

"Unfortunately, there only seems to be one willing to dance with me.
But that's fortunate for you. I would love a dance."

H'run gaped at him. "I'm shocked you don't have a line all the way out
to the Weyrbowl! This Weyr is positively missing out if they aren't
monopolizing a handsome stranger who has come all the way from Dream's
End. I can't believe you haven't been danced off your feet yet."

"Oh I have plenty of people asking for a dance, but just the one
bronzeboy." Z'kim winked. "Oh, speaking of dancing, do you know
K'mai?"

H'run forced himself to smile like the sound of K'mai's name didn't
feel like a knife in the belly. Z'kim knew something. Perhaps K'mai
had said something about him to the greenrider? Or perhaps he was
fishing for gossip-- his and K'mai's talk earlier hadn't exactly been
private. "I know him well enough," he said with an airy wave. "Why do
you ask?"

"Is there some bronzerider he's got a thing for? He kept pushing to
see if Nik and I were an item. 'Oh what if a bronzerider was in love
with a man' and things like that." Z'kim chuckled. "At first I thought
he wanted to get Nik into bed, but now I think he's after someone
else."

"Is he?" K'mai's secret wasn't going to remain a secret for long at
this rate. H'run debated telling Z'kim everything, just to hurt K'mai
like he'd been hurt himself. It would feel so good. "Perhaps. One
always wants what one can't have, and a bronzerider is firmly in the
'can't have' category."

"Mmm . . ." Z'kim held back a smile. "K'mai seems to be searching for
some hope. No idea then? You seemed to know practically everything
when we were at Dream's End. Getting rusty?"

"Such skill at cajolery." H'run batted his eyelashes. "I'll bite,
although all I'll say is that K'mai seems to constantly be thinking
about bronzeriders these days. Such a pity."

"Indeed, when us green and blueriders are handsome _and_ available."
So H'run wasn't going to tell him, interesting. Z'kim would have to
sniff out the Dragonsfall gossip some other way.

"There's no accounting for taste." H'run's words were a little more
bitter than he'd intended, so he deflected. "Like that dress over
there. Faranth, what a hideous colour on that woman. And those puff
sleeves went out of style a Turn ago."

Z'kim studied H'run for a moment. Something personal there? "Are you
nursing another heartbreak, darling?" H'run had a tendency to throw
himself headlong into a relationship and then wallow in despair when
it inevitably ended.

The bluerider pressed a hand to his chest. "Me? No. Well... maybe. But
I am not going to talk about that here. It's a party, love. I'm going
to get more wine-- save me a dance later?"

"Of course." Z'kim kissed his cheek. Now he had two stories to dig up.
