A'khal didn't knock. The bluerider was too familiar for his own good, really, though his hands were full with copies of Threadfall charts and weather reports. His usual grin was nowhere to be found, replaced instead with a frown as he passed the first report to the Weyrleader. "We have another storm cell forming to the north, out in the ocean. Reckon it'll make the scattered showers in the last Threadfall look like a pleasant stroll."
N’vanik rubbed his temple. “How bad, do you think?” Sometimes a storm was a relief, drowning Thread and doing their job for them. Other times, it meant fighting between rain showers, being blown around by the wind, and getting soaked in the process.
"The humidity didn't taper off at all from the rain during last Threadfall." A'khal said with a small shake of his head. "Thinkin' it's going to be bad. We'll be lucky that half the Threadfall will be over the ocean, but I don't think we'll be so lucky that we'll get the rain once it makes landfall. Clouds are building up in such a way that we're expecting lightning, too. Don't think the clouds will drown Thread enough; if anything it'll be shit tryin' to see it falling."
“Feck,” N’vanik said as he looked at the weather report. The storm could shift further north or south, but right now it looked like it was going to hit right over the Fall area.
"Language, sir." A'khal drawled with mock seriousness. "At least it'll only be about two candlemarks, at worst?"
“A lot can happen in two candlemarks.” And while there were things the Weyrleader could do to compensate, he couldn’t control the weather. It had been a while since he was this nervous about a Fall.
"Don't I know it. We've had it easy for too long, I guess. The Red Star decided we needed to actually put in some work." A'khal tried to say lightly, "But it ain't four candlemarks in the mess. Lots of extra greens and blues to fill gaps or swap out-- but that ain't my purview. Anything else I can do before I go dump this info on R'kede?"
N’vanik looked between the weather report and the Threadfall chart, as if staring at them would make the information change. “Check with the dolphineers tonight and again in the morning.” Maybe they’d get lucky and it would hit early, or blow over entirely.
"I'll see if one of the watchriders can't be reassigned to the Dolphin Hall for a day." A'khal said. "If not, I'll go. It's not so far that it'll make a difference on our tools, but at least we can get word from the relays that much sooner. Here's hoping for a sudden change in direction. What a time to be wishing that we'd have a hurricane coming instead."
“What a time to be missing the blizzards back at Dragonsfall,” N’vanik said with a wry smile. In his head, he was already going over which formations would work best, what other compensations he could make if the storm was as bad as he feared. “Alright, let’s go warn the others.”
