K'mai

Mentioned:

Sebeth bugled to the watch dragon as they came out over Dolphin Cove. K'mai's stomach tightened with nervousness, not sure how H'run would react to a surprise visit.

}:If he does not want to see you, we will find someone to cheer you up. There are many people here.:{

That brought a little smile to his face. Sebeth was right.

}:Hello Calcifeth! Is yours busy? Mine would like to see him.:{

Calcifeth blinked sleepily from his ledge. He'd been dozing in the hot sunshine and it took him a moment to pass the message along to his rider, who nearly dropped his tray in the middle of the dining cavern.

**He's here?!** H'run's heart was suddenly going a mile a minute, but there was a bitter taste in his mouth. **Why? No no, don't ask. I suppose I shall figure it out soon enough.** He provoked several irritated looks as he returned his half-filled dinner tray to the kitchens and hurried toward his temporary weyr. It was starting to feel as cramped and lived in as his weyr back at Dragonsfall, and he wondered with a pang if K'mai had been sent to bring him home. The mindhealers were certainly hinting that he'd outstayed his welcome.

Sebeth landed on the ledge and K'mai slid down, carrying a bag. "Hi, H'run. How are you doing?"

H'run was doing his best to look nonchalant as K'mai approached. "Is everything all right? Are you all right?"

"Healing pretty good." K'mai held up his right arm. "I brought some of your clothes." He nodded to the bag slung over his left shoulder. "I didn't know how long you might . . . be here, so . . ." And he was the reason H'run had come here in the first place. K'mai had driven him half a continent away by using him, which was totally his fault, and by falling in love with someone else after telling H'run he couldn't fall in love. But K'mai couldn't help that part.

"Oh!" H'run flushed at the thought of K'mai going through his overstuffed closet. There were some things in there that weren't for public consumption, especially not by someone who'd turned him down. **No help for that,** he thought, rallying. "That's so thoughtful of you. I am surprised you were able to find anything at all in there, or that you weren't buried in an avalanche. I keep asking the Headwoman for more storage and she ignores me. Come in!"

K'mai followed him into the weyr. "There might have been a moment where I worried it was all going to come down on me and I'd have to call for help." He smiled. "But I know how much you love your clothes, so the risk was worth it. I picked out things best suited for warm weather, and a few nicer outfits for Hatchings and Gathers." It had felt eerily like going through someone's possessions after they'd died in Fall, but thank Faranth, not with the ache of knowing they would never wear their clothes again. H'run was alive, and seemed to be doing well at Dolphin Cove.

Immediately H'run was dying of curiosity and his fingers itched to grab the bag from K'mai's hands. "That's so sweet of you! Anything in particular you'd like to see me in?" The words slipped out before he could help himself. It was so easy to flirt with K'mai. He scrambled to cover his tracks. "Or more likely, that you've stolen for yourself? My closet is a wonderland, I wouldn't blame you if half of it has walked off by now."

K'mai couldn't help the keen flicker of interest at H'run's flirtatious comment, but he pushed it away. It would be a mistake. Probably. No, definitely. And then he opened his mouth and said, "Why steal when I can ask you what I look best in?"

"Darling, everyone looks best in the nude," H'run said dryly. He plucked the bag from K'mai's hand so that he wouldn't have to look at the bluerider's expression. Was he interested? Exasperated? Mortified? Why did he even care what K'mai thought? H'run began pulling items from the bag and spreading them in a rainbow across his bed. "However I do think you look gorgeous in warmer tones. Perhaps a burnt orange or sunset hue. If you ever want to go to the Weaver Hall, do let me know. Oh!" He pulled out an emerald green robe and hugged it. "I missed this!"

"I remembered you especially liked that. And you look very good in it." K'mai's gaze skimmed down the robe and then flicked up to H'run's face. No, no, no. He should _not_ be flirting. He shouldn't be thinking about H'run in that robe. He shouldn't be thinking about H'run naked. Because if something happened, H'run would probably take it the wrong way. He'd keep wanting something K'mai couldn't give him.

"Yes, I do." H'run sat on the edge of his bed with the robe in his lap. "I bought the fabric at Sapphire Meadows and paid a Weaver at Dream's End to add the embroidery around the cuffs. It was one of the first things that I had made for _me_, exactly as I like it."

"Then it's definitely special." K'mai smiled. "If there's anything else you want, let me know."

**You.** H'run smiled. "Are you able to stay for a while? For... I suppose an early lunch for you and dinner here, if I am getting my candlemarks correct? I never do. Far too complex," he said with a wave of his hand.

"I would love to stay." Hope rose in K'mai's chest. Maybe they _could_ patch things up. They might not be able to go back to the way it was before, but maybe they could at least be friends. And maybe H'run would come home. "I can catch you up on all the gossip, and you can tell me what you've been up to."

H'run smiled, already thinking about what he could requisition from the Kitchens to impress K'mai. "I want to hear _everything_, starting with all those Holdless camped out in the middle of the Weyrbowl."
