Aggression

Writers: Avery, Eimi
Date Posted: 20th June 2006

Characters: Penryn, Ishek
Description: Penryn brings Ishek the disturbing news that the felines have become more aggressive.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 12, day 1 of Turn 3

The Steward set down the hide with a frustrated sigh. Ishek had to see this. The reports of feline prints and missing small animals was growing, and now _this_. He walked purposefully towards his Lord Holder's office, clutching the report in hand. His mind raced back, trying to remember if anything had happened like this before, this mass migration of felines into human terriroty. Penryn wondered just what was causing it as he knocked on Ishek's door. At the summons he entered.

"Excuse me for interrupting you, my Lord, but I thought this was a matter of some importance." He laid the hide down on the large desk.
"The felines have grown a bit bolder it seems. Two bovine were found killed and partially eaten merely a stone's throw away from Cortak cothold. It seems they are growing less afraid of humans."

"Comforting." Ishek remarked dryly, reaching for the hide. "So it's no longer just pawprints, they're outright attacking animals? Why, it's then only a small small step for them to attack humans." He bit his lip.
"The cothold, can they handle the loss of the bovine?"

"It will certainly hurt them, but I don't think they are in any real danger economically. I am worried about physically, though. Felines have been known to pick of an ovine or caprine now and then, and perhaps a bovine when they are out grazing far from human habitation, but this,"
he pointed to the report, "This was a rather brazen attack."

Ishek nodded. "And if they try to prevent another attack, they may get wounded." He looked at Penryn. "How should we respond to this- is there any help we can give them, any advice on how to drive off felines?"

"I think it would be wise to up the patrols of the area, and to make sure the guards are in groups and armed," the steward suggested.

Ishek nodded and noted that down. "Groups and armed, that way the beasts can't do as much damage if they catch a patrol out. Anything else?"

"I think it would be good to ask the hunters about the game in the mountains. I am curious as to why the felines feel the need to hunt our animals. Perhaps they cannot find enough prey of their own?"

"I suppose that's likely." Ishek said. "I can't think of any other reason, but then again I don't know much about felines."

Penryn couldn't claim to be an expert either. "Yes, we should learn more if we can. We might also want to find out if felines are prevalent in _this_ area. Just in case."

Ishek nodded. "I'll ask around, as well as have the Records searched."
he said. "Anything else of interest today, or just the unsettling reports?"

"So far just that," Penryn sighed. "I figured it should take precedence over any other news coming across my desk."

"I agree." Ishek said. "It's vital and unnerving news, and I hope it's the last of its kind...but somehow I have this feeling it won't be."

"Yes, I suspect so," the steward nodded. He hoped they could get to the bottom of this, and quickly, before more than bovine were harmed.

"Right." Ishek nodded. "I'll want to speak to you about this in...two days, unless anything comes up before then." he said. Two days should be just enough time to collate the research, he hoped.

"I'll see what I can dig up in that time," Penryn nodded.

Ishek nodded. "Thank you for the report, Penryn." he said. "Dismissed."
