Z'al had found a dolphineer that was willing to see his lovely weyrmate.
He had bundled her up and made the flight over land to the beach. It wasn't far and he smiled as they landed. He watched the dolphins as they came in from playing in the waves to see what was going on. He dismounted and helped Kirra down before her turned to the young woman watching them from the edge of the water. "Are you ready for this?" He asked.
Kirra gulped and nodded her "yes" as he helped her down. "It's funny how I was worried about being pregnant, but now I'm worried about finding out I'm not." "Don't worry so. We are here together." He smiled as he walked over to the young woman. "I'm Z'al and this is my weyrmate Kirra. We came to see if she is pregnant."
Kirra blushed at his forwardness, but stayed quiet. She put her arm around his waist and pulled him close to gain some of his courage. "All right," the journeyman nodded. "I am one of the Healers, Geilien. I just need to ask you a few questions before I turn you over to the dolphineers. Please step into the office here."
Kirra nodded and walked into the office with her weyrmate close at hand.
She sat down in one of the multiple chairs and waited for the healer to begin. "Right, when was your last menstration?" the healer asked as he took out a pen and a hide.
Kirra had expected this question, "About six seven-days ago."
"All right," the healer jotted that down. "And when was the last time you had sex?"
Z'al tried to keep his face straight through all the questions. He was glad Kirra had the questions well in hand for answering. He kept his hand on her shoulder to show support.
Kirra was glad Z'al was there or else she would have felt far too awkward, "Five days ago."
"Thank you," the journeyman nodded, writting that down too. "Have you had any other symptoms? Sore breasts, a frequent need to relieve yourself, fatigue? Anything like that?"
Kirra nodded, "Yes, they've been sore, and I have felt more tired than usual lately," she scrunched her nose, "I've also gotten sick almost every morning for the past few days." "Do you have any allergies? Asthama? Insomnia? Any other health problems you are currently seeing a healer about?"
Kirra shook her head, "No." "All right," the healer smiled. "If you could write your name and where we can be found in the Weyr, that will be it for the paperwork. You will also find some robes in that closet that you and your friend can change into so you don't get your own clothes wet in the water. I will go see if the dolphineer is ready for you. Just go straight out that door there when you're ready."
Z'al did as told and smiled as he gently helped Kirra do so. He couldn't help himself as he looked at her. He kissed her and turned toward the door. "Here we go love. The moment of truth." He motioned to the door.
Kirra tried to smile confidantly as Z'al led her outside, but knew it wasn't very convincing. Z'al opened the door and held it for her. He gave her an incouraging smile. He followed her out and gently put his arm around her. He looked around for the dolphoneer. He had enough confidence for both of them.
"You must be Kirra?" a voice called from the water. "I'm Journeyman Matfee and this is Scib. We'll be checking you today."
Kirra smiled as she got into the water. "It's good to see a smiling face like yours Scib. It's been a while since I've been home."
"Come out a little further into the water, Kirra. You can come in too, Z'al," Matfee assured him. Z'al nodded as he followed his weyrmate out. He put a loving arm around her to help steady her. In truth he wondered if it was to steady her or himself. He watched in fascination as the dolphin came a little closer.
Kirra walked deaper into the water and stood still, surprizingly relaxed as she felt the water move against her in the some-what thin dress. She had grown up at the Dolphin Hall and felt it fitting that she come here to verify if she in fact had a child within her.
The dolphin began swimming around the couple making clicking and squeeling sounds as he went. Finally he stopped in front of the young woman, make a few more squeels and then darted away quickly.
"What's the verdict, Scib?" the dolphineer called.
Scib stuck his head out of the water with a mighty blow from his blow-hole and squeeled in what could be considered a dolphin laugh. "Baaaybeeee! Baaaaaybeeee!"
Kirra's eyes overflowed with tears she hadn't expected and she let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. She had never smiled as wide as she did as she turned to Z'al, joyous disbelief spread all over her face, "Z'al!!!"
Z'al smiled as he took her in his arms. "Oh Kirra," was all he could manage. He was so happy it brimmed over. Soon Nyinth was buggling their happiness to the whole of pern, or at least attempting to.
