K'mai

K'mai

Nocte woke with an irritable feeling she knew was not her own. She shoved the blankets aside and got up. She walked into Quylith's weyr and stopped. Confusion flooded her mind as she noted Quylith's coloring.

The small and agile little green raised her head and gave her rider a baleful stare, }:While you were sleeping I was starving. I wish to eat now.:{ With that she launch herself for the feeding grounds without giving her rider a chance to speak.

Nocte stood a moment before she truly knew what was happening. Then she was out her door. Running for the flight room still in her nightgown. She rounded the corner sliding in her bare feet. She was not prepared for this. Not now. She stood in the center of the flight room, a pale little figure in a pale green nightgown, tousled hair, and bare feet.

}:Wake up!:{ Sebeth's voice cut through the last hazy bits of a dream.

"Hmmmmm?" K'mai mumbled before the lust seeped in. Trying to shake off his sleepiness, he sat up.

}:Quylith is rising, and I will catch her!:{ "Quylith?" K'mai echoed, suddenly more awake. His relationship with the young greenrider was more friendly and teasing than it was flirting, and he wasn't sure how he felt about winning her Flight. But Sebeth was insistent, so he hopped on the blue's neck and was taken down to the small but growing group of men near the flight room.

}: There's a green flight I want to take part :{, Zackariath informed his rider with a tone that didn't accept arguments.

"Right," U'das answered. Well, a flight was more interesting than hidework anyway. He joined his dragon at the feeding pens. **Who is it, anyway?**

}: Quylith, young and sweet, :{ the bronze crooned his admiration.

** Quylith? Oh, Nocte. Oh, well, at least she's a she.**

}: MINE!:{ Kenaranth snarled in his riders mind. J'ren winced, **Who?**

}:Quylith.:{ The wingsecond lept on his bronze neck, only to dismount at the feeding pens Quylith gave a snarl to those around her. She was too good for them.
They could never catch her. She shrilled her challenge as she launched into the air. She moved with speed and grace. Her slim small green body slipped through the air with purpose.

One the ground, in the flight room, a small slim girl in a flowing nightgown taunted those around her. She snarled and teased. She was one with her dragon. Only she was aware enough to keep her green in check. She was no longer the shy little girl with the large eyes. Her eyes glittered with promise.

}:Oh, yes, she is truly worthy of the chase :{, Zackariath crooned his admiration when he rose to the air, going after the green.

**Yes, she is,* his rider sighed with equal admiration.

Sebeth followed the green eagerly, fighting for position in the pack of males that launched from the ground. K'mai reached a hand out toward Nocte, no longer unsure. He knew only desire for her now.

M'galec had reached the gathering just in time to watch as his Dwarkanath sprang from the ground. The bronzerider hoped his lifemate had better timing than he apparently had. At least he had a chance to finish sewing up the man before his dragon called... Now, despite the unfortunate timing and his fight to regain his breath, he encouraged his lifemate to fly well and to catch his beautiful green.

Quylith called her suitors to her. She flew high. She glanced back at those who followed and cried her challenge. She was young and quick. She let an air current carry her higher and into the glare of the rising sun.
She twisted and soared out of the reach of a brown that had gotten far to close. She trumpeted delight at his sudden frustrated bugle. She suddenly dropped through her suitors and came up behind a bronze that was unable to turn and catch her in time. She soared on in the opposite direction.
All her suitors had to turn themselves around.

Nocte exalted in the feel of her dragon's emotions. She bounced from man to man. Teasing as she went. Her mind was totally on her dragon. She no longer knew who was who. Perhaps letting herself forget Vykor for this one moment in time she could finally be happy.

}: She is a tricky one, :{, Zack commented, the bronze's tone was admiring one.

Kenaranth dove for the green, roaring as he missed, he banked, trying to reach the green again.

Dwarkanath growled in frustration. He had poorly timed his first jump to get his bulky frame off of the ground and now he was still playing catch-up. There were times when his large size worked against him, and this appeared to be one of them. But he was determined to catch up. He still had a chance if he could just catch up...

Dipping a wingtip, Sebeth dodged around a brown and moved closer to Quylith. He was sure the green would not last much longer and he flew faster, hoping his stamina would outlast hers.

Zackariath watched with sinking disappointment when the blue outmanouvered him. His scarred wing was affecting his agility. He just couldn't turn and twist like before.

Quylith was beginning to tire. She had to make a choice soon. She glanced back to see who was closest and made her choice. She soared right into the path of a young blue she had come to know.

Nocte fell into the arms of the rider whose blue had caught her green and all else was forgotten.
