Improving Hold and Hall Relations

Writers: Avery, Bree
Date Posted: 31st July 2006

Characters: Miralani, Ishek
Description: Miralani tells Ishek that Daynar will be paying him a visit.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 12, day 27 of Turn 3
Notes: Takes place BEFORE "A Lady's Price" because we're out of order! Ooops! :D

"Well? What do you think?" Miralani piled her hair on top of her head so that her brother could admire the necklace and earrings that she'd gotten at the Smith Hall. "Master Daynar gave me the earrings as a gift, and they might be the most gorgeous thing I've ever owned!"

"Oh, those are beautiful." Ishek said, going over to look more carefully.
"It seems he's taken a liking to you. Should I be asking what you were doing at the Smith Hall?"

"Seeing if I could get the Hallmaster to take a liking to me?" she replied lightly, a wicked glint in her eyes. "I think I might have managed."

"It certainly looks like you did! What are you hoping for, when it comes to him?"

Miralani let her hair fall back before taking a seat. "I think I can handle him. I want you to see what sort of arrangement we could come to if he took me as his wife. Give me a few more chances to charm him, and we'll be able to get something out of it, too."

"Arrangement?" Ishek blinked slightly, before realizing she probably meant a political one. Ah, what he'd hoped to avoid. "What kind of arrangements do you think we'd need from the Smiths? A contract for more equipment? More of their products for us rather than others?" He shrugged slightly.

Rolling her eyes, Miralani ran her fingers along the necklace she'd purchased as she watched her brother. "You are so hopeless sometimes, Ishek.
Why do you think I went to all the trouble of wrapping him around my little finger?"

"To improve the relations of the Smith Hall and the Hold?" Ishek guessed- it was close enough, he hoped. "You know...political advantage."

"Among other things," she replied dryly. "Don't worry, Ishek. I'll discuss things with Penryn. Make sure you ask his advice before you make any promises."

"Okay, I will." Ishek promised. Inwardly he felt a bit bad that _Miralani_
had to go to Penryn... he wasn't very good at what he was doing, was he? He was _trying_ to learn about these things. Really. "I suppose we'll need to start making wedding plans, won't we?"

"Probably. Though I suppose it would be prudent to wait until he visits...
just in case he's not as enamored as I think he is." She didn't find that very likely, though. Master Daynar seemed to be right where she wanted him.

"I believe he is, Miralani- any sane man would be with you anyways, and if you've tried to woo him, he's well and truly caught." Ishek laughed slightly. "I suppose he shall be stopping by."

"I suppose he shall." Standing, Miralani slipped her arms around her brother and hugged him. "And you'll do a wonderful job, and the girls and I will be living just up the hill. We can see you whenever we want." And she'd be able to keep an eye on him.

Ishek smiled. "I'm glad about that. I'd hate it if you moved across the continent. Or even just across the Range." He knew that kind of marriage often happened, and was glad his sister would be staying close to home. "I'm so happy for you."
