"Moren," Kyla looked at her husband, "What are you off to do today?"
The middle-aged man looked at his wife after he slipped his tunic on and smiled. "Today's a restday, don't you remember?" Kyla rolled her eyes at the man she loved, "I hadn't forgotten." she turned back to her mending she had been working on, then perked her head up as she heard someone nock at the door of their room. Moren finished tightening his trousers as he walked to the door, "I wonder who that could be?" Kirra was _so_ happy that she had decided to tell her parents the wonderful news, and since she and Z'al were at the Hall any way she had dragged him along. Kirra jumped into her father's arms when he opened the door, "Papa!"
Moren was surprised to see his daughter, but even more so by the hug and shear happiness. He let Kirra go hug her mother as he noticed the young man standing in the doorway with a big grin on his face. "Welcome brownrider, I'm Moren of Dolphin Hall." He gave the young rider his hand in welcome. "Z'al rider of brown Nyinth of Dolphin Cove sir." He smiled as he was welcomed in. He watched his weyrmate hugging her family excitedly. He would take her to meet his parents when it became safe for her to travel between again. He also couldn't forget to get her to a healer soon.
If she impressed he would have to bring his family to see her. Perhaps he would bring them for the hatching, that would work.
Kirra pulled away from her mother and walked over to Z'al and held his hand, "Mother, Father," she looked at each in turn, "For the last month or so I haven't been staying in the candidate barracks." She looked lovingly at her weyrmate and then continued, "I know I've mentioned to you both that I had met someone, and this is him. Momma, Papa, this is Z'al, brownrider of Nyinth, and my weyrmate!"
Kyla's eyes opened wide, and she looked at her husband's similar expression of disbelief. Her expression changed quickly as she looked back at her daughter and how happy she looked and then at the young man and his kind eyes. With a wide smile she got up and gave Kirra and Z'al a big hug. Moren was a little more withdrawn, **She's rather young, but I guess it's better than her being pregnant.** The older man smiled and gave the couple a hug and a few words of congradulations after Kyla had let go. Kirra was so happy that they were glad for her that she thought it would be a perfect time to tell them the _great_ news. "Momma, Papa, there's something else I want to tell you," She looked at Z'al for support and then she looked back at her parents, "I came to the Hall today because I wanted to have a dolphin verify something, and the answer was very good." She paused to let them grasp what she was saying, "I'm pregnant."
Z'al watched the looks on her parents faces and his heart nearly sank. They didn't look happy. If they weren't happy, what would they say. He had to say something. "Madam, Sir I assure you I will let no harm come to Kirra. I love her dearly."
Her father's gruff expression and her mother's worried look weren't missed by Kirra though, and her heart _did_ sink. Kirra was at a loss for words but the way her parents were looking at her it reminded her of the times that she had led a group of young children in an atempt to strike back at their tormentors. It was as if her parents thought she had done something wrong. "Momma... I know it's soon, but," she looked at Z'al and a hint of a smile came to her lips. It was then that she realized that no matter what her parents thought, she would have the baby. It was the outcome of her love for Z'al and his love in return, nothing, not even the parents she had loved and respected her whole life could ruin something so special as having a child with the man she would love for the rest of her life. She continued, "I know it's soon _but_ nothing can change how much I want this baby. And that it is Z'al's makes it all the more special to me."
Moren and Kyla were shocked once again, to see their daughter who had grown to be rather well behaved after her early childhood escapades, almost tell them off for being worried and upset over her pregnancy. Kyla's eyes twinkled with pride as she thought about the situation. She had always had a small side of her rooting for her daughter; what she did and how she handled things, and was always ready to council her in how to maybe do something a little more wisely. But seeing her stand up to them was something that not many at her age would have been able to do, and Kyla couldn't help the smile. "Dear, It's clear that you love this young man and that your child will be taken care of _very_ well," she paused and looked at her husband's wide eyes, "so, anytime you need help making clothes or taking care of the baby, you just tell me." By then she had a wide smile across her face and tears of happiness flowed down her cheeks. Kirra's face was streaked with just as many tears as her mother's as she ran into her arms, her smile was just as wide. "Oh thank you Momma!"
Moren watched increduously as his wife and daughter held eachother, but he felt much different than his wife, "_WHAT!?!_" he exploded, "There is _no_ way _my_ daughter, who is _only_ sixteen _turns_, is going to have a _child_ with some _dragonrider_ before she even _impresses_!" "Excuse me sir, but you can't stop her from having our baby. She wants it as much as I. She may still impress too. My brown has sired a fine clutch. I love Kirra more than anything save my dragon. She knows this. I can not allow you to take her from us. We are happy. The last woman I loved as much as Kirra I had to watch her father marry her off to a man who did not love her. I had to watch her leave because I wasn't good enough as a fisherman. I had to learn of my son three years later. I could not live with myself if I allowed it to happen again because I am a dragonrider." He stood there between Kirra and her father. His shoulders where set hard and his face a mix of emotions. Dis explodded into the air above them with a shreik. He landed on his person's shoulder and glared balefully at the man.
He then took flight almost as quickly and landed on Kirra's. It was not something he normally did. He crooned softly and rubbed his head on her chin.
Sunny, Kirra's bronze flit, appeared seconds after Dis, flying around the room, sqwauking in agitation and then landing on Kirra's other shoulder following the brown's actions of comfort and support. Moren had been incredulously surprised by the brown flit, but had covered his head in mild fear of Kirra's bronze flit as it had made it's rounds of the room sqwauking at him. He stood up straight as he saw both flits safely on Kirra's shoulders and his cheeks reddened in embarassment at his reaction to them, as he watched Kirra crying anew at their show of emotion and Z'al's sturdy-unmoving stance. Kirra looked at her weyrmate with eyes full of pride and love, she had felt her mother tense at the arrival of the flits but had relaxed at seeing them comfort Kirra, and she patted her mother's arm as she got up to go to her father. "You heard him _father_," she emphasized the replacement of the usual term of endearment, "I'm _having_ this baby," a few tears ran down her cheek, she couldn't believe that her father had reacted that way, "with Z'al's _help_, _with_ or _with-out_ _you_!" A few more tears streamed down her face before she turned back to her weyrmate and headed for the door.
Z'al shook his head as he follwed her. At the door he turned back and smiled saddly. "I will write to you to tell you how she is doing. I look forward to bringing our child to see you. Please, do not hate me for this.
I love her and wish her only the best. I don't want her to become angry enough to never speak to you again. I will calm her and have her visit the next rest day. She needs you as her parents more than she knows." With a last sad smile he walked out and took his waiting weyrmate in his arms.
"It's going to be alright love I promise."
