Aryn immediately recognized the humming when she heard it. She calmly put down her work and walked off towards the barracks. But when she though she was out of site, she would skip jog. She was anxious, even if she didn't want to show it.

When she reached the barracks the girls side was quieter then she expected. There was the usual amount of giggling mixed with nervous laughter as they changed, but Aryn thought it was a bit more subdued.
Perhaps they were all focusing more inward with a gold on the sands.
It wasn't simply a matter of impressing or not this time. No, this time someone would leave the sands with a gold, with all the perks and pitfalls associated with a queen dragon.

She couldn't help remembering something her brother had told her.
"Not enough little girl's dreams come true anymore. Aryn, don't be one of them." But what did the statement really mean. Was it really her dream to impress, to be a queen rider? Wasn't it enough to have escaped early marriage and childbirth? Was it not enough to simply be content with life, did one have to follow some ill defined dream?

Soon enough Aryn found her self going towards the sands with the rest of the crowd. Just as she was taking in the eggs beginning to rock her brother appeared sweeping her up in a hug. "Best of luck Aryn."

"Thanks," Was the all she could say at first, both surprised and a bit winded by the tight hug. But she could not let her brother have the last word, even if he was already jogging back to the guys. It occurred to her that since this was a highly inappropriate moment to bring up the fact she had caught her brother eyeing certain people, that she should. "Afraid you'll attract the notice of a green if you stay over here brother?"

But he quickly responded without missing a beat. "don't want to ruin your chances dear sister." Aryn let it go at that, and was glad she did since not a moment later was a great cracking sound heard. The first egg had opened! Aryn held her breath as an adorable green burst out, small egg shells still covering her. Aryn made the appropriate motions, thinking happy, welcoming thoughts as she and others converged on the dragonet, but it stumbled away towards one of the boys who soon announced her name.

As other eggs began to rock and break open Aryn's attention was drawn towards the queen egg. It didn't seem to be moving. She wanted to keep watching, waiting for it to rock and crack, but other eggs were finally breaking open. As she spun around, trying to take in all that was happening, approaching a new dragonet here, backing away as another lifemate was found, she saw that her brother was not fairing any better. Her eyes kept flicking between the still silent queen egg and her luckless brother. Finally her brother caught her eyes though.
Almost all the eggs had hatched. They held eyes though, he was trying to mouth to her something and it was then she saw the green, picking her way over.

}: Aryn, please, look to me :{ "Who was," she said under her breath, realizing it was the dragonet.

}: I am Viyanth, I am also hungry, why are you crying? :{ For Aryn had begun to cry as she huddled around the young dragonet, hugging her, petting her. She suddenly was very happy, and fulfilled, and a void she didn't know was there was now filled, overfilling. "Her name is Viyanth," she announced, but softly, since all attention had shifted to the queen egg. Excepted a noted few. Toriat, from a ways away saluted her, as the last male dragonet was impressed.

Viyanth butted her head against Aryn's, physically and vocally insistent that she was ravenous. "Ok, what ever you say Viyanth."
Aryn replied, getting up. Then the pair made their first steps in their new life together.
